The Graduation Surprise
Today was the day I took the exam and graduated. I'm feeling so nervous. I hope while I'm doing the routine, I don't mess up or fall. That will be embarrassing. I'm sitting in my car trying to calm my nerves. Taking deep breaths in and out. Sighing I'm trying to convince myself that I can do it. After my nerves had calmed down, I got out of my car and walked towards my school.
Once I was inside, I met the owner at the entrance, and she told me what I should do and where I'm supposed to go.
I went to the locker room to put my stuff away. Then I went to stand in line, waiting to go inside the gym.
Our names were being called one by one. The audience clapped as each of the other students went in. My name was called, and I went inside to stand in my assigned place.
After the ceremony was done, I met my family, and we all met with some of the instructors.
As I was standing near the entrance talking with my family, someone tapped me on the shoulder from behind. Startled, I turned around and was met with a bouquet of flowers. Carnations. My favorite flowers. There's a mixture of purple and pink with one or two bunches of white baby's breath mixed in them. They were wrapped in paper the same color as the flowers.
Someone behind me gasped. I slowly looked up. It was him. I stood there surprised. Not knowing what to do or say. My heart starts beating fast. "Hi." I said, smiling.
"Hey." He says, smiling back.
There was a brief silence. Clearing his throat, he asks, "Can I talk to you for a second?" I started to feel nervous. I wonder what he wants and who the flowers are for? They're beautiful. Looking behind me to my Grandfather, he nodded his head. I turn back to him. "Sure." I replied. I turn to my family and let them know I'll be right back.
Following him down the hall towards the back of the school where there are couches that people sit down on to wait for their class. He stopped in front of those couches, and I did the same.
He turned to me and held the flowers towards me, looking nervous. Great, now he's making me nervous. I started shifting side to side with my hands behind my back.
He cleared his throat. "I first want to congratulate you on passing your test."
I nodded my head, smiling. "Thank you." Taking the flowers, he handed me. I'm relaxing a bit but still nervous. He smiled back and cleared his throat again. "I also want to ask if you would like to go out to dinner with me on Saturday evening?"
My smile turned into shock. I looked away, not believing. Did he just ask me out? I said to myself. I'm pretty sure he did. I'm not dreaming, right? He just asked me out I said again. He started moving from side to side out of nervousness.
I mentally shook myself and looked up at him.
"Yes. I would like that." His eyes light up, and He smiled big.
"Great. I'll pick you up around 6 pm?" he asks, still smiling. I nodded my head also smiling.
We both walked back to my family, and I introduced him to them. I also told them what happened, and they started clapping, saying finally. Embarrassed, I started laughing. He looked at me with confusion.
"They have been waiting for me to finally go out with someone. I'm always focused on work that I don't often think about it." I told him.
He laughs. "I see. Will this be your first date?"
I looked down, feeling embarrassed. "Yes."
He nods. "Well, I'm glad to be your first." He says, smiling.
I smiled back. "Yes."
You see thing is, I already liked him. I was just hoping he liked me back.
