The pack

A cold wind blows and howls slowly rocking the tall spruce trees, the air crisp and chilled as the sun slowly begins to rise. A new fall day is slowly starting, frost coats the ground from the cold night air. The river runs fast down the valley. Ice that slowly formed throughout the night on either side of the river cracks and chips off into smaller pieces and floats down the river. On the river side Two wolves run downstream they make it to a small den with a large tree over top. Two wolves lay in front of the den.

This is the river pack; a young pack of four.

(Max) is the alpha of the river pack. He has a gray back with a white face and stomach. His tail has a black tip. He is slightly smaller than the rest of his pack.

(Damein) Is the other male wolf in his pack he is the lead hunter of the pack. His back is mostly gray with a white stomach his face has black markings on it.

(Bailey) is the elder female of the pack. She is too old to mate she was a lone wolf for a season; she had pups with the alpha of the mountain pack, the largest pack in their region. She is white and has slightly gray marks on her back and above her tail.

(Lily) is the youngest wolf in the pack. She was with Bailey but wasn’t one of her pups. They both came to Max and Damein looking for a pack. She is a black wolf with hints of white around her neck and under her arms and legs and little bits mixed into her coat.

Lily runs up to Max and licks his face before saying.

“How was it? Did you find anything?”

She spoke, a little fast whining in excitement. (She is a very excitable wolf and tries to be very social with all her pack.)

Max snaps back.

“It was fine Lily.”

He walks past her towards the den. Lily sits down next to Damein, she sighs he looks at her, she tilts her head at him. Wagging her tail happily as they start to make conversation. Max walks to the opening of the cave and lays down next to Bailey; she looks over to him and asks.

“How was the check?”

“It was good all clear to the north and west towards the mountain and the hill pack.

clear to the east the green pack but from the south.”

He stops for a moment.

“There was. some other scent from a female wolf or dog I'm not sure but it smelled strangely familiar. so we’ll have to keep a close eye on that side.”

Bailey gives him an approving nod. She looks at Lily and Damein and smiles at the two. (Bailey tends to act like a mother to all the pack after losing her litters when she was Jack's mate from the mountain pack.)

Lily playfully jumps on Damein knocking him over onto his back, he starts nipping at Lily’s neck playfully. Max Begins to get irritated at the two he snaps at Lily and Damein she gets off him and slunches over then lays down dropping her head to her paws.

The two got close when she joined. Damein was always by her wrestling and playing. Lily was only a year old when they joined Damein, always was better with pups and the younger wolves he could handle their roughhousing and immaturity. But he knew when he had to snap when they got a bit too crazy.

Damein walks over and lays down by Max and looks off down the river.

Lily looks over at Max; he ignores her and looks off towards the river as she lowers her head onto her paws again.

Max knows that they have to mate to grow the pack. But both of them are on edge with each other; the two of them never got along as well as her and Damein. Max was hard on Lily trying to prepare her for being in the pack and raising her young; he didn't think she could do it.

Damein looks at Max.

“We should go hunting.”

Max gets up.

“Let's go then.”

Bailey and Lily get up and follow Max and Damein as they make their way towards the hunting grounds.
