Chapter 1

Laura woke with a start, her heart pounding against against her Chest, as if she had just barely escaped being chased by mutant zombie squirrels in her dreams. She lay in bed, her black hair in disarray and her blue eyes scanning the dimly lit room with confusion and lowkey trying to find the source of her nightmare.

"Ah, here we go again," Laura muttered to herself, adressing the invisible audience she imagined reading her life a novel "Okay, seriously, can't a girl get a decent amount of nights sleep around here ?" Her voice was filled with equal parts of frustration and amusement, she glanced at the readers... imaginary or not, who she was convinced were there to witness her nightly supernatural drama unfold.

"Let me tell you something about living in this city", she began adressing her unseen audience with a smirk.

"Rule number one: if you hear a knock on the window in the dead of the night it is better for you to not answer it trust me it comes once in a month like clockwork and let me remind you guys it can't be the pizza delivery guy at your window in the middle of the night."

She paused for a dramatic effect, hoping that her sleepy mind could load in the next information to be represented. "no one knows what happens to the poor souls who answer these calls they vanish faster than the desserts i keep in my refrigerator."

She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up and went closer to the window as the floorboards creaking beneath her feet. The moonlight entering her room and casting dark creepy moving shadows the silence of the night were enough to give a dramatic entrance to the ghost. Outside, the city streets were glimmering with the lights from the Street lights, Quietness and peacefullness were echoing on thoes streets , unaware of the drama which was going through Laura's head or maybe in her apartment.

Laura leaned closer to the window , peering out into the night with exaggerating suspicion. "I know you are out there Mr.Ghost or Mr.Bloody demon", She called out , her voice laced with mock bravado. " But tonight i am not taking the bait. Go haunt someone else's dreams." She drew the curtains shut with a flourish as if she was sealing away a demonic existence.

Returning to her bed Laura flopped down with a dramatic sign ready to resume her battle against the force of darkness - that is after her beauty sleep of course.

"As much as I'd love to solve the mystery of the knock, I've got better things to do," she remarked, addressing the readers with a wink. "Like sleep. And maybe binge-watching cheesy horror movies where the protagonist always answers the knock and then wonders why they end up possessed by a demon."

With that, Laura snuggled under the covers, her eyelids growing heavier with each passing moment. "Ah, the perks of being one of the lucky ones who never answers those tempting calls," she remarked to the readers, her voice muffled by the pillow she buried her face into. "No mysterious disappearances or possession for me, thank you very much. I've got better things to do, like dream about winning a lifetime supply of chocolate." With that, Laura drifted off to sleep, her dreams filled with absurd scenarios and imaginary conversations with her favorite fictional characters.Hours passed, marked only by the soft ticking of the clock on Laura's nightstand and the occasional rustle of the curtains in the breeze. Somewhere between dreams of ninja kittens and talking tacos, Laura stirred, her subconscious grappling with the lingering echoes of her nighttime musings.

Suddenly, a faint tapping sound echoed through the room, like tiny fingers rapping on the window pane. Laura's eyes fluttered open, her heart skipping a beat as she groggily registered the familiar yet unwelcome noise.

"Oh no, not again," she groaned, dragging herself upright in bed and rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Can't a girl catch a break?"

The tapping persisted, growing louder and more insistent with each passing second. Laura hesitated, torn between her resolve to defy the supernatural and her curiosity that was as stubborn as a cat trying to fit into a shoebox.

"Okay, fine," she muttered begrudgingly, throwing back the covers and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. "But this is the last time, ghosty. After this, I'm installing soundproof windows and investing in a really loud alarm clock."

She approached the window cautiously, half-expecting a ghostly apparition or a mischievous spirit to greet her with a wink and a cryptic message. Taking a deep breath, she slowly drew back the curtains, revealing the empty darkness of the night outside.

"Laura," it murmured, its tone laced with malice and temptation.

"Open the window, Laura."

The voice whispered again, louder this time, its words insistent and persuasive.

"Open the window, Laura. Come outside."

"Open the window," the voice whispered once more, its tone coaxing and persuasively. "Come outside, Laura. See what awaits you."

Laura chuckled to herself, a mixture of relief and mild irritation bubbling up inside her. "Nice try, Whispering Mr.Bloody demon," she called out into the night, her voice tinged with amusement. "But I'm onto your tricks. You'll have to do better than that to scare me or persuade me."

With a satisfied grin, Laura closed the curtains once more, sealing away the mystery and returning to her bed with a newfound sense of relief. As she settled back under the covers, she couldn't help but marvel at the absurdity of her nightly adventures and the resilience of her quirky spirit.

"And they say living in a haunted city isn't good for your health," she mused aloud, addressing the readers with a wink. "Well, I say bring on the ghosts, goblins and much more. This girl's got jokes-and a solid sleep schedule-to defend herself."

And with that declaration, Laura drifted back into dreams of comedic chaos and imaginary victories which are known as her midnight fantasies by her friends, ready to face whatever supernatural challenges this city had in store for her next.
