Not such a meet-cute

“Dum dum dum,” a loud banging music woke Abby from her sleep. “What the hell?” she said to herself. “This is probably Cynthia’s doing,” she said, getting off her bed. When she opened her bedroom door, she couldn’t believe her eyes. There were a whole lot of people dancing around and drinking. It was a full-on party. She wondered "I mean the house was empty when I went to bed. how did all these people get here in 15 minutes?".

“Excuse me, excuse me,” she shimmied through dancing people, looking for Tilly. Tilly is her best friend. They have known each other since junior year. She found Tilly sitting with a group of people, most of whom she didn’t know. But Cynthia and Haven were there. “Arghhh,” she said. She didn’t like Cynthia, and she couldn’t tolerate Haven. “Tilly, what the hell?” she said, looking at her. Tilly got up from the couch and hugged her. “Abby, I didn’t know you were home.” She was clearly tipsy. Then a boy she had never seen before said, sipping his drink, “I didn’t know we were allowed to invite homeless people to my awesome party.” Haven and Cynthia chuckled. They weren’t fond of Abby. “Theo, stop it. You don’t get to be a bully today, especially not to my friend,” said Tilly, while still leaning on Abby. Abby looked at her clothes. She was wearing a large t-shirt and some baggy sweats. Then she looked at Theo and said, “Theo, is it? It must be really awesome to throw some rad and, I am assuming, popular parties and yet not have or afford a home.” She saw the smugness on his face wear off. “Call me when this is over, Tilly,” she said and left to her room. “Theo, we will talk about this tomorrow when I don’t have alcohol in my system,” said Tilly and left the group. It has always been Tilly and Abby against Cynthia. The only reason she is their roommate is because she can afford to pay her rent on time, and the fridge is always full, and she is always on a diet, hence a whole lot of free food. “I don’t think this girl is sane, you all,” said Haven, while leaning on Theo. “What she says never makes sense to me,” added Cynthia, and they both laughed. Theo didn’t say a word. He understood what she said; it actually hit a core.

Abby went to her room, grabbed some blankets, and went to the roof. Theo saw that. He couldn’t help but think about what she said. He has a lot of friends, but no one has noticed what he aches. And this girl, whom he had never met to this day, looked at him for less than 5 minutes and knew his weakness. He barely talked after that. After an hour or so passed, Haven said, “Boo, I hate to be an ass, but your party is not so much fun today. I think it is the house.” Cynthia chuckled with approval, and Theo didn’t reply. She continued, “Would you like to leave and do some nasty things to me?” looking at him and twirling her hair. “Not tonight,” he said. “Suit yourself, darling, your loss. I’m going to leave, and you can call me when the ‘Theo’ I know is back. This ‘Theo’,” she said, pointing at him, “is boring as hell.” Then she left with Cynthia. Cynthia did whatever Haven did. She idolized her. Haven is the rich, bitchy popular girl in college who bullied most of the students. She was known for her racy outfits and rich boyfriends. Most of the male students wanted to be her boyfriend, and most of the female students wanted to be her.
