Tangled Roots
17 years. 17 years I’ve been on this earth, and it only took 3 months for my whole life, for everything I thought I knew about myself to change. When you grow up black, it’s not just being black, it’s every single thing you do being watched, every imperfection, everything you say, everything you are. When you are black you are no longer a person, in their eyes you are a ticking time bomb, a threat, a thug, a criminal. You have no real worth in their eyes, you could be the next Einstein, but there will always be that fact, you are black, you will only be a footnote in history if you’re lucky.
