Prologue - Diary Entry
1960
Anton said he’d protect our baby girl. He promised me to never let anyone hurt her until the day he dies and I believe him. Or at least I believed him.
He didn’t call me for a week and in all that time, I’d not once seen Adder. I thought he’d gone to get drunk with his friends as he always does every time he gets his pay check and god forbid a woman values her alone time because I sure do.
But when he returned, so very merry, I thought he was burning up with a fever. He’s always drunk off his arse or angry. Thought not this time.
Good lord, help me. I knew there was something wrong. So wrong. Yet I didn’t pay attention to what he’d brought home until he showed me the bundle in the car boot.
My baby. Anton’s baby.
My lovely Yulia.
Adder knew how much she means to me and my sweet Anton but… how did he manage to get her? I trusted Anton with all my life and I know he would’ve never let anyone touch her especially if I begged him to do so.
That’s what I thought until Adder dragged me to the tele and put on the news, babbling nonsense as always and refusing to give me an answer.
I don’t think I’ve ever screamed so loud in my entire life until today. Even now, my hands shake as I write this because all I see is his blood on my hands. He didn’t get into an accident. He was robbed and so brutally slaughtered.
The remains of his face were displayed on tele yet any evidence that there was ever a baby with him had vanished. Everything except a baby blanket.
An investigator declared there was a baby but they don’t know what happened to it. It doesn’t matter anyways because my baby is here. Safe and sound.
I just don’t understand how he found Anton.
For now, I cannot let anything happen to my baby. The only thing left of Anton that I have. She even has his beautiful face.
I can hear Adder’s car pulling up now so I better get to work before he starts getting ideas.
