Nathan owned the bar where Scarlett worked, Scarlett picked up shifts as much as she could to pay her rent and feed Amber. Her boss didn’t know she was picking up extra shifts until the other night when he called her into his office. Scarletts mind raced with worry as she thought she’d be fired.
John, Amber’s father. World known criminal of the mafia world, beat and shoved around Scarlett especially when she was pregnant with Amber, Scarlett left when she was 8 weeks pregnant, but John had been shoving her around for years before that.

Scarlett came into work as she headed to the back to set her stuff down and tie up her boots a little tighter... Nathan called for her into his office before her shift, she followed hesitantly and worried that she thought she was going to be fired or yelled at for something. Nathan said “Close the door dear and sit down” his voice cool and steady, his voice sent chills down her spine, she closed the door, and she sat on the very edge of her seat the panic rising inside of her. He spoke again, a little bit warmer this time “You’ve been picking up extra shifts, how come?” Scarlett froze and she inhaled sharply under her breath, and she whispered “I have to sir... I’m behind on rent and I need to feed my daughter” tears welled in Scarlett’s eyes, but she refused to cry. Nathan spoke calmly “How far behind are you?” She whispered her voice scarce “$300 behind…sir” Nathan’s heart sunk at the struggle she was enduring, he replied “I’ll send a car with you to your apartment, pack your daughters things and your things, I’ll handle your rent” Scarletts tears broke from her eyes and she sobbed “Thank you so much sir you have no idea how much this means to me” Nathan hugged her and he murmured against her hair “I’m happy to help hon” she hugged him and she sobbed she was beyond grateful for his help.
9 hours later
It was now the end of Scarletts shift and she went to the back to grab her things and her keys. Nathan had his men follow her home and she packed her and Amber’s things into a duffel bag and she came out holding amber who was sleeping in her arms peacefully chewing on her pacifier wrapped up in her blanket, Nathan’s men grabbed her bag and Nathan opened her car door and she whispered “thank you” she held Amber on her lap as Nathan got in the back beside her and he held Scarlett’s hand and Scarlett smiled at his small gesture of comfort.
