The Sparkle

“A little more, and it will be out”, she thought to herself.

A little girl tries to dig up a big rock partially buried in the ground in her backyard.

It was almost out. She had dug out the mud around the rock with a stick. She was now trying to push it out with both her hands. Her knees were grounded, she uses all her might to push the rock out.

It doesn’t come out. It needed a little more digging. She digs a little more with her stick and tries to push it out again.

It pops out.

She pushes out the rock from its spot. A big hole is left where the rock was lying before. She now wanted to fill the hole created in the ground with something else.

She gets a mug of water and pours it into the hole. The water stays momentarily but naturally starts seeping into the ground. She watches the water level decrease, she then hurries and gets another mug of water and pours it into the same hole again to keep it filled with water.

The water seeps through again. Her efforts go vain and the void still remains.

She collects some leaves and places them in the hole to create a layer over the surface of the mud.

“This should work”, she tells herself. She goes to get another mug of water.

On her way back she notices a flower amidst the weed near the place she dug the rock. The petals of the flower seemed to sparkle. She moves around to see if the flower was actually sparkling.

It seemed to.

She goes closer to see if it was still sparkling.

It did.

It was a flower amidst the weed but it was twinkling as if it was a star.

She wanted to take it and show it to her mother. But she feared that it might stop sparkling if she plucked it out.

She was carrying the mug of water in her hand intended for the hole. She takes the water and pours it carefully into the hole and then goes to call her mother to show her the sparkling flower.

(Camera doesn’t follow her. Stays in the garden and waits for her to return)

She comes walking back disappointed, her mother doesn’t come along with her to see the flower.

She comes back to the garden and notices that the water had stayed intact in the hole she dug. The hole was full like she wanted it to be.

She is happy.

She turns around and looks at the flower. It was still sparkling.

Her smile grows wider.
