1). A New Beginning

The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over the sprawling campus of Harvard University.

Freshmen and returning students alike bustled around the dormitories, their excitement palpable in the crisp autumn air. Among them was me Emily Richards, a freshman with a heart full of dreams and a head full of of nervous anticipation.

I had always been a small-town girl with big aspirations. Harvard with its ivy-covered buildings and stories of history, represented a world of possibilities far beyond my hometown. I pulled my suitcase across the cobblestone path towards Maple Hall in my assigned dormitory, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and anxiety.

In Maple Hall, I was greeted by a flurry of activity. Parents hugged their children goodbye and students introduced themselves to their new roommates already unpacking.

"Hi! You must be Emily Richards." said the girl with a bright smile.

"I'm Chloe. Nice to meet you."

I smiled back feeling some of her nerves melt away. "Nice to meet you too Chloe."

As we settled into the room, we exchanged some stories about our hometown, their majors and their hopes for the year ahead. Chloe a bubbly theatre major from Chicago, seemed to be the perfect balance for my quieter, more introspective nature.

"Have you been to the library yet?" Chloe asked as she hung up a poster of a Broadway musical on the wall.

"Not yet. But it's on my list. I heard it's beautiful." I replied with a warm smile. Chloe's eyes sparkled "Oh, it is. It's my favourite place on campus l. Maybe we can go together sometime."

I nodded, feeling grateful for Chloe's friendly demeanour. "I'd like that."
