Something New, Something True
Heavy and unable to breathe. Every single day Lea had to fight to figure out if she wanted to continue with life or not. Growing up all she had was herself. Her father, a monster of a man, gave her more trauma in her first 12 years of life than most seen their entire lives. Her mother, a docile, weak woman who didn't know how to stand up for herself allowed Lea and her two siblings to be put through the unimaginable. The moment Lea was able to run, she did. Gathering all her strength and courage, she left and never looked back. Escaping the town she lived in and the problems her family caused only seemed temporary. What happens now that Lea has now moved for the 3rd time since leaving Raleigh? She's in a new city, living in a new place, with a brand new job. Lea meets a man who promises her the world. But after all of the trauma, is she going to be able to let him in? Especially when her past seems to have finally caught up with her. Fight or Flight, those are the only two options.
Lea
9 fucking boxes of just kitchen supplies. Kitchen. Supplies. Who in their right mind has this many dishes? Especially when you have been living alone up until the last year. Lea fucking Williams, that's who! Within 20 minutes of moving boxes from the U-Haul, Lea had started sweating, cussing, and in all reality, questioning life.
This is her 3rd time moving in 7 years since she turned 18. The moment the clock struck midnight on her 18th birthday she gathered up all of her belongings, grabbed the cash she had stashed away, and kissed her siblings good bye. It had been a long 7 years since she had seen them and she missed them terribly but she couldn't go back.
"I know you aren't taking a break already?"
Taken out of her train of thought, Lea snaps her head to the direction the voice came from.
Shae. Truly a light in the darkest of times. She quickly pulled me out of the darkest of times when I moved to Detroit 2 summers ago.
"Sorry, I was just thinking about how much I hate moving. Why do we have so much kitchen supplies? It's just the two of us moving into this house?" I said.
Shae looks over to me and starts laughing.
"You are aware that you have a serious Target addiction when you get stressed out right? The moment anything stressful occurs, you march yourself straight into that store and buy all the ingredients and supplies you need to create something tasty."
Taking in my surroundings, I see that she's right. The majority of this stuff I have bought on a whim while at the store. Most of it to keep me distracted from the outside world. All I could do right now is stand here and shake my head.
"Okay well me looking at this now isn't going to get us any further. Let me come help unpack boxes from the truck and then we can tackle actually unpacking them once its unloaded."
Taking a deep breath, you start the walk back out into the California heat. You'd think you'd be a little more used to this since you had already been here for 2 weeks. But here I was, panting away.
