Well-crafted historical fiction

"As a lover of historical fiction I loved this book that helped me learn so much about Russia at the time of the first world war, while also being very well-written and including a heartbreaking love-story. It took me some time to figure out who is who, but that is just a minor point. I am very interested in seeing how the story will go on and how it will present an alternative outcome to how history went... "

[ongoing] Romanov's alternative timeline

"Although the story is still ongoing, it's got me hooked from the very beginning and I can't wait to have some more to read. Based on some rather serious research into the last years of the Romanov Dynasty, along with all the protocol of Russian aristocracy and noble families, the author has been able to beautifully capture the whole luxuriant ambience of life in the upper-classes. Set at the beginning of WWI, we follow Vladimir Paley and his family, as they navigate through both the difficulties of, once again, trying to regain Imperial favour and dealing with the uncertainty of life at the front. Vladimir is a sensitive soul, with a propensity for the arts that greatly surpasses the need for the glory of war. We watch him bloom into a sensible young man who is not afraid to open his heart. But life in Russia, during this period, is not just about opulence, and the author also grips perfectly well the uncertainty of a looming revolution and the growing discontent that rattles the upper echelons of society. A great work, so far. Wonderful job, author."
