Chapter 1

I don't know why I even came here tonight. I always say no to going out to parties. Something about being in a house full of strangers and god knows what kind of drugs and booze. I sighed again for the millionth time in a row and my best friend Ellis looked over at me "Are you really having that bad of a time?'' She raised her eyebrow at me. I shrugged and looked down into my cup, swirling my soda around in it "You know I don't do parties El." she huffed and rolled her eyes ``Listen Vi can you try to look like you're having a good time? You have to live a little, you know." I sighed one last time before nodding "Fine." I looked around at the sea of bodies feeling my anxiety creep into my chest, trying to squeeze my heart. I looked out the sliding glass door into the massive forest behind the house. It almost felt like something was luring me in, maybe it's the peace and solitude that I had been longing for before we even showed up to this place. I set my cup down on the nearest table and turned to Ellis to tell her where I was heading when I saw an empty space beside me. She had already made a beeline across the room, talking to some football player, I shook my head and headed outside. The warm summer air wrapped itself around me and I took a gulp of air and started walking to the entrance of the woods. I feel like I could finally relax as the sounds of the party got replaced with the sounds of cicadas screaming. I kept walking until I came to a clearing and I instantly got goosebumps as alarms were going off in my head. This clearing had to be man made; it was a large circle with nothing but stones making a small circle with trees on the outskirts. I walked closer and leaned down touching a stone softly, tracing the symbols that were carved into it. “You’re not supposed to be here.” a deep voice boomed behind me. I jumped and turned “I- well-” I cleared my throat “ I just needed to walk and get some air.” my eyes were searching for the source of the voice. A man stepped out from the shadows “A walk hm? Well you’re a long way from home it seems.” I froze up as I blatantly eyed the stranger. Only three words came to my mind about him; he was definitely tall, dark and handsome. He had to be over six feet tall and he was lean. My eyes drifted up to his face, sharp and chiseled. I felt the blood drain from my face when we locked eyes, the alarms in my head getting louder. “Your eyes- they’re purple.” I blurted out, he looked at me with boredom. “Yes I am aware of that, you humans are all predictable. Now would you kindly return to where you came from. This will be the only time I offer nicely." He took a few steps towards me and I hastily stumbled back from him. I nodded quickly and looked to see which direction to take, hoping I would see the glow of the lights from the house or be able to hear the music. I stood there for a few seconds debating if I should just run. I nibbled on my bottom lip as the idea of getting more lost and not being able to get out ran through my mind. What would be worse, getting lost in the forest and starving to death or staying here a little longer? Maybe if I asked he would help me despite his bizarre looks he seemed calm and not violent or at least I hoped he wasn't. He sighed and ran his hand through his white hair. “Don’t tell me that the sad little human is lost.” he walked towards me again and my heart dropped into my stomach. “Stop! Don’t come near me.” I snapped at him but that only made him walk faster. I turned to sprint and tripped over the stone that was at my feet. He snatched me away from the ground, my arm throbbing from the grip of his hand. “As I said before, all of you are so predictable.” He held me tightly as I tried to tear my arm away and he leaned close to my face “I told you that was the only time I was going to ask nicely.” I sobbed “Please I just don’t know how to get back. I'm sorry don’t hurt me, just let me go please.” He took his other hand and grabbed my face tightly, forcing me to look at him “I must say you do look rather delicious.” I cried even harder as I felt his warm slick tongue run down my cheek to my neck. He groaned and leaned deeper into my neck. “You look so pretty when you’re scared and crying for me to spare your pathetic life.” I felt him lick my neck again before feeling a sharp pain. I screamed and tried to push him away. He growled slamming me against a tree before grabbing both my wrists in his hand. A weird choking noise came from my throat as all the air left my lungs and I struggled to breathe in. He glared at me “Now stay still I would hate to kill you before I got a chance to actually taste you. Humans are so much better when they’re alive and their hearts beat so erratically from fear.” I sputtered seeing blood on his mouth glistening in the moonlight “W-What?” This had to be a nightmare or some kind of sick prank. I don't think I can handle much more of this. I felt my head was gonna explode and my stomach twisted itself into knots as bile creeped up my throat. He moved to my neck again as I felt the same sharp pain from before this time I could hear him sucking and swallowing and the knots in my stomach twisted tighter. “Stop!” I screamed “Please don’t!” my cries fell on deaf ears. The throbbing and stinging in my neck felt like it was spreading all over my body. Soon the sting turned into tingles as goosebumps broke across my skin and the waves of painful throbbing turned into ecstasy. I gasped and squeezed my thighs together feeling the familiar warmth spreading between my legs. My body slumped against the tree, relaxing, while the alarm bells going off in my head quieted down from the fog of lustfulness rolling in. He pulled back slightly “You’re such a good girl aren’t you?” I nodded my face feeling ablaze “Say it” he growled. I clenched my eyes shut “I’m a good girl” He hummed while he ran one of his hands up and down my outer thigh slowly making his way inwards. I moaned, parting my legs for him “So willing..are you a little dirty girl too?” he bit my earlobe pulling softly “I-” he covered my mouth briskly. My mind began to clear when I heard a branch snap and cold lightning went through my heart and settled into a lead ball into my stomach and my eyes flew open. A whirl of violet mixed with an almost palpable heat met my widening eyes. I whimpered and he sucked his teeth “Now what happened to you being my little good girl?” he took his hand off my mouth “Don’t make a sound and I might be nice enough to reward you.” he moved his hand back to my thigh slowly making his way in between them and my eyes rolled back. My legs started shaking as he moved his finger in small circles. My eyes lowered emotions running through me unwieldy. The most pressing one is shame, how could I just let him do this? I was just fighting and screaming for him to stop a moment ago and now I’m just panting like a dog in heat. “Look at me, pretty girl.” his voice rumbled. My gaze snapped back to him, “That’s it, just look in my eyes.” I felt all my thoughts escaping me as I looked into his tranquil stare. I felt all the uneasiness leave me again and the overwhelming heat of desire filled me. He slammed his lips against mine and my back arched as I moaned. He gently bit my lower lip and I instantly opened my mouth. He took the chance to shove his tongue in a copper taste spread throughout my mouth. “Oh shit sorry!” a squeaky voice yelped rapidly followed by the sound of leaves crunching as the girl ran. He withdrew still peering down at my face “Playtime is over I’m afraid. I’m going to keep you around. Your taste is indescribable. It would be such a waste to kill you. What a lucky human you are hmm?” I felt my face crack with a smile as I nod “Yes I’m so lucky.” he chuckled “I’ll find you again sweet girl now run before I change my mind.” He retracted both of his hands. I sprinted when I finally felt myself being freed from him both physically and mentally. I cried out in relief as I heard the bumping of the bass getting closer. I got weird looks as I ran through the doors straight into a bathroom. I threw the top of the toilet and plopped down trying to slow my breathing as sobs wracked my body. There was a knock at the door before I heard Ellis call out “Hey Vi are you okay? I just had like 20 people tell me they saw you running out of the woods crying. They said you looked really scared too, like you saw a dead body or something.” I took a big gulp of air “Yeah I’m good I just got spooked I thought I got lost I’ll be out in a minute though okay?” my voice cracked and it was silent for a second. “Okay well I’ll wait for you right here.” she replied I huffed and got up looking into the mirror. I pulled back my hair and saw two bloodstained puncture marks on my neck. I quickly washed it and slurped some water, swishing it around trying to get the copper taste out. I spit and dried myself off as I moved my hair to hide the mark. I stepped out and gave my friend a quick smile. “I’m good now I promise but can we go now please?” she nodded “Yeah of course are you sure you're good? I waved my hand at her “Promise I’m just drop dead tired now.” She eyed me suspiciously. “Alright well let's go then.” It was a quick drive back to my house. I thanked her and quickly went up to my room stripping my clothes when I entered and crawled into my bed. My thoughts were racing all about what happened tonight. Who was that guy and more importantly what the hell is he? Did he really drink my blood and I liked it? It could have been some kind of mind control I didn’t feel completely together when I was staring into his eyes but before that? What's my excuse then? I flinged my pillow over my face and screamed before throwing the pillow across the room. I sighed and tried to calm myself down. It's over with and I’m alive, that's all that matters right now. My thoughts slowly got quiet as the dark bliss of sleep took over.
