Summary

Emily's life turns into a waking nightmare when her dreams start to bleed into reality. Convinced that the vivid, recurring dreams she experiences are more than just figments of her imagination, Emily finds herself haunted by a familiar voice and unsettling visions. As the boundaries between sleep and wakefulness blur, she becomes increasingly paranoid, feeling constantly watched even in the safety of her home. One night, after a harrowing encounter with shadows in her house, Emily's family surprises her with a birthday party. The joy of reunion is short-lived when she discovers a cryptic note written in what appears to be her own handwriting: "HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ME?" The unsettling message sends her deeper into a spiral of confusion and fear. Her teacher, Mr. Davis, seems to be a key figure in her dreams, his voice echoing through her subconscious with unsettling familiarity. As Emily tries to piece together the mystery, she uncovers hidden truths and long-buried secrets that connect her dreams to her waking world. The more she delves into her own mind, the more she questions her sanity and the reality around her. In a desperate attempt to make sense of her experiences, Emily must confront her darkest fears and uncover the truth behind the haunting echoes of the unseen.

Chapter 1

~In dreams, the shadows of our past rise from their graves, whispering secrets and haunting our sleep with echoes of what we thought we had buried.~

CHAPTER 1:

“Come on, don’t think about it too much. You know it was just a dream,” Amy said, trying to reassure Emily. But Emily couldn’t shake the feeling that the dream she’d had was more than just a figment of her imagination.

“If you keep obsessing over it, we’ll be late for class,” Amy warned as they walked down the hallway. Emily followed her friend, though her mind remained preoccupied with the unsettling dream. “I’m going to take a quick nap,” Emily said, her voice tinged with exhaustion. “Wake me when the teacher comes in, okay?”

Emily closed her eyes on her desk and drifted into the same dream, but this time it felt like a continuation, a story unfolding with blurry images and a familiar voice—one that sounded around thirty years old and eerily like Mr. Davis’s.

Amy shook her awake. “The teacher gave us some work to do,” she said. Emily, still shaken, tried to focus but found herself distracted by the same voice calling her name. “Emily... Emily.” Her heart pounded as she froze in her seat.

“Emily, the teacher’s calling you,” Amy said, nudging her. Emily stood up, her mind racing, and answered the teacher’s questions, though she was initially too stunned to respond. The teacher gave her a reassuring smile and told her to sit down and continue with her work.

After class, Emily whispered to Amy, “I heard Mr. Davis’s voice in my dream.”

Amy laughed, “You must have a crush on him or something!”

Emily rolled her eyes, trying to ignore the comment. “Just forget it,” she said, returning to her work.

When Emily got home, she went through her usual routine: a bath, dinner, and homework. With her family out of town, she was alone, and the silence felt oppressive. Unable to shake the feeling of being watched, she tried to distract herself with a book, but the sensation persisted.

She went to the kitchen for a snack and noticed a shadow moving into her room. Panic surged through her as she raced to the door, only to find it locked. She dashed back to get her phone but remembered she’d left it in her room.

Desperate, she ran to the living room, but someone grabbed her hand from behind. She screamed, her voice echoing through the empty house.

Tears streamed down her face as laughter filled the room. Trembling, she looked up to see her grandparents, parents, and brothers smiling at her. The lights flickered on, revealing a surprise birthday party she had completely forgotten due to her recent stress.

Relief washed over her as she embraced her family, the tension easing. But later, as she enjoyed the party, Emily noticed the curtain of her window moving, as if someone was peeking inside.

She told her older brother, who dismissed it as part of the prank. “Emily, it’s just a joke. No one’s in the house,” he said.

Emily nodded, but a gnawing feeling of unease persisted. The next morning, her unease turned to dread when she found a note on her desk written in red ink: “HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN ME?”

Her brother, Alex, came running after hearing her scream. He saw the note and said, “Emily, this looks a lot like your handwriting.”

Emily’s eyes widened. “No, it can’t be,” she whispered, her heart racing. The handwriting was similar but had a hurried, erratic quality.

Alex added, “Remember the notes you found in your locker? They looked like your handwriting too.”

Emily’s mind raced. The dreams, the strange notes, and now this—everything felt intertwined. She recalled waking to find her room rearranged, suggesting she might have been acting out in her sleep.

Alex tried to calm her. “Maybe it’s just someone who mimics your handwriting or you’re just under a lot of stress.”

Despite his words, Emily’s gut feeling told her this was more than a prank. Something was off, and she couldn’t shake the unsettling sense that something was terribly wrong.
