Episode 1: Prologue
COLE
Soaring high above the Earth's surface, surrounded by billowing clouds and endless sky, there is a sense of tranquility that not everyone can grasp.
The rush of wind against their face, the vast expanse of blue stretching out before them, it all adds to the feeling of weightlessness and freedom.
The sky is a bright blue canvas, punctuated by wispy clouds.
Below, the trees are aflame with shades of red, orange, and gold as their leaves turn with the changing season.
The vibrant colors paint a breathtaking landscape against the clear blue sky.
The smell of autumn is one of freshness and earthiness.
The air is crisp and cool, carrying a hint of wood smoke and decaying leaves.
There is a subtle sweetness, like apples and cinnamon, mixed with the dampness of fallen leaves.
From this vantage point, I can see the entire world spread out before me like a magnificent tapestry.
The weight of leadership rests heavily on my shoulders, the constant pressure to make the right decisions for my clan.
But when I take flight, all that stress and responsibility melts away as I become one with the wind and the sky.
The beating of my powerful wings and the rush of air against my body is a soothing balm to my soul.
Up here, I am free from the concerns of mortal life, and all that matters is the feeling of pure exhilaration coursing through my veins.
A sudden, ear-shattering noise shatters the tranquility of my flight, bringing me to a screeching halt in mid-air.
My acute hearing picks up on the desperate cries for help from my clan, mixed with the deafening roars of an pain.
Without hesitation, I push my wings to their limits and rocket through the sky, determined to reach our home before it's too late.
As I near the deafening screams become unbearable, piercing through my skull like hot metal.
The acrid stench of burning fills my nostrils, choking me as I shift back into human form and sprint towards the entrance.
My heart races with terror as I see a blazing inferno in the center of the field, engulfing a pile of wood with iron cages perched on top.
Inside those cages are my clan, trapped and doomed to be consumed by the flames.
My blood boils with rage and despair as I realize the brutality of our enemies' attack.
Panic overtakes me as I frantically try to break open the bars of iron, my skin searing with each futile attempt.
How could anyone know our ultimate weakness?
Ignoring the searing pain, I turn my attention to my trapped clan members, their agonized screams filling the air.
I grasp at the iron cages with all of my might, but they seem to be fused shut by some unknown force.
Desperate and fueled by a surge of adrenaline, I finally manage to pry open one cage, freeing two of my fellow clan members who are now safe from the fiery inferno that surrounds us.
But there are still more cages...and time is running out.
Desperately, I struggle to free another member of my clan as the flames rage closer, scorching my skin and searing my flesh.
With a fierce determination, my two remaining comrades grasp me and pull me back, but it's already too late.
Helplessly, I watch as my other clan members writhe in agony, engulfed in the inferno.
My body gives out and I collapse to the ground, overwhelmed with the crushing weight of failure and guilt as the intense pain courses through my veins.
The piercing cries of agony echoed through the air, filling my ears and sending a shiver down my spine.
Despite the desperate urge to help, I was powerless and could only bear witness to their suffering.
The stench of charred and cooked flesh filled the air, causing my stomach to twist and turn with nausea.
The metallic tang of blood mixed with the acrid odor of smoke, creating a sickening scent that made my heart physically ache.
My senses were overwhelmed by the overwhelming smell of death and devastation.
The deafening screams came to a sudden halt, signaling the end.
Tears stream down my face as I scream, "I'm sorry!" over and over again, my voice cracking with unbridled guilt and despair.
My hands shake as I reach out to them, but it's too late.
Their lifeless bodies lay before me, a gruesome reminder of my failure to save them.
My chest heaves as I let out a deafening roar, a primal scream fueled by raw emotions of agony, betrayal, and seething anger.
My lungs ache from the effort, but I release all my pain, hurt, loss, and rage in one earth-shaking cry that echoes through the barren wasteland around me.
The question hung in the air, heavy with uncertainty and fear.
"What do we do now, Cole?" one of our members asks, their voice shaking slightly.
I take a deep breath before responding, my own mind reeling with the weight of our situation.
"We find a new home," I say firmly, trying to project confidence and determination.
"We search the area and hope that others escaped and survived."
And so we set out into the unknown, scouring every inch of land for any signs of life.
After what feels like an eternity, we come across four others who also miraculously survived the massacre.
Together, we continue our search, determined to build a new home where we can finally feel safe and free from the constant threat of attack.
As we work tirelessly to create this new haven, filled with hope and possibility.
I know deep down that we will never forget the horrors of our past experiences, but they will only make us stronger as we embrace our future.
