Chapter 1

Lana was close to being eighteen and was being escorted by a carriage as she made her way back to their kingdom after a long trip of attending a funeral for another King in a different land.

She had not wanted to go but had no choice but to join her parents as they went to pay their respects.

Finally, the funeral was over, and she woke up the following day to return to her kingdom. She had overslept and everyone had gone ahead of her, so now she was the last person being escorted back.

Her carriage stopped abruptly, and she heard yelling. Her door opened abruptly, and that startled her a bit.

“What is going on?”

“There is an ambush and you need to stay inside, Princess.”

Lana felt panic setting in as she heard screaming and decided to go outside. So many of her men were falling.

Yet what shocked her the most was the fact that it was just a single person who had done all of this damage.

Her blood ran cold, how could he just kill twenty of her men and still seem to be in more than great shape?

“You have to escape Princess.”

She stood there in shock, her personal guard seemed to be running out of breath,

“GO! RUN! I WILL HOLD HIM OFF!”

“I can’t leave you behind.”

“YOU HAVE TO! FOR THE SAKE OF THE KINGDOM AND I PROMISED YOUR PARENTS I WOULD KEEP YOU SAFE.”

“But..........”

“GO NOW!”

“I’m sorry.”

“DON’T BE! SURVIVE!”

Lana hastily began running through the forest but turned around and could see that a horse was galloping towards her.

She picked up her pace, it was dark with a bit of light from the moon but she reached a dead end on a cliff. It seemed to be a dark abyss, and now the man dismounted his horse and stood in front of her.

She took out her pocket sword,

“Do....do.....nt.......com.............e.........an....y.....clos.....er”

He took a step towards her and he exuded so much darkness and cruelty that made her all the more shiver with so much fear,

“If I don’t?”

Her teeth were chattering, not from the cold but from the inexplicable fear “I’m not.............................pl......I ......annn.....”

He took another taunting step towards her, “I’m getting closer.”

He seemed to be relishing her fear but she could not stop trembling,

“Let.......m.....e.....go.”

He smirked, “And why should I?”

She should bargain, surely there could be something that he wanted, most wanted money or position. “My......f.....a.....t....her.......wi.....will....gi...ve....yo...u.....wh....ate...ver...y....ou...want....”

“Why should I believe you?”

“I....ne...ver.....br...eak....m...y...promise.”

“What I want from your father is for him to feel the same pain I did. He did not grant any mercy and took advantage of that. I will now pay him back in spades.”

“You’re g...o...ing......t....o...k....ill....me...?”

“No one said anything about killing you.”

She shook her head, that was even worse, what did he intend then? “I....I....n...o”

He took another step towards her and he was very close, another one and Lana swung, but he had caught her weapon swiftly and held her by the throat.

She hoped he would change his mind and kill her, but he tried to pick her up and she struggled with everything in her.

She scratched and he sat her down, then he hit her on her neck, and everything started to close in on her.

Everything went black.
