Prologue

“We did it, Katie! Bring your sexy ass over here.”

I saunter up to him, high on success. The seductive feeling puts me in the mood, but it distracts John by the night. He wants to relive it again and again. I want to celebrate it with my favorite activity.

“did you see Canada’s coverage yet?”

My arousal is waning,

“Yeah, I saw it from every perspective because I was there, remember? You were, too.”

I can’t keep the irritation out of my tone. A hard clap across my cheek jars me, and I look at John with incredulity that quickly turns to Ire.

“Don’t you ever talk to me like that!”

Are you fucking kidding me? I stand in the same spot while he goes back to his laptop. The shock of his slip in character takes a few minutes to digest,

“I think we’re done here.”

He glances toward me still typing,

“don’t be absurd, you stepped out of line so you got a reprimand. Now it has passed move on.”

I laugh it comes out low pitched and a little scary even to my own ears,

“we are finished John.”

I grab my purse and head for the door. When I turn around he’s boring holes into me, his focus off the laptop.

“and John, if you give me any problems, I will make sure everyone knows why.”

He looks like he might launch at me and I ready for it. Instead, he goes back to his task,

“Very well, Katie.”

I leave, slamming the door. Though his head isn’t between the door when I do, like I wish it was. The act gives me a little satisfaction, as childish as it is. I'm satisfied with my decision to leave. I know he’ll regret his hasty reaction when I’m not in his bed anymore. He’s obsessed with me, but I’m over him. He’s not worth it.

Little did I know that was just a glimpse into the monster John truly is.
