Author’s Note on Background for this Novella and Spoilers

You do not have to have read We Are NOTAlone nor the sequel Together We Are NOT Alone to read this companion novella.The novella stands alone. Nonetheless, it serves to better elucidate events that occur in the We Are NOT Alone universe in a time before We Are NOT Alone is set.It is considered a companion work to the first two novels.While not the intent, nonetheless, there is information given that may spoil some elements of the novels in the universe in a way that may fill some readers with some regret.Therefore, of course, I encourage readers to delay reading this until after they have read at least through Chapter 10 of Together We Are NOT Alone.

Meanwhile, this novella is intended to be read like a work of non-fiction, though of course it is entirely fictional.

Please suspend your disbelief and imagine that a book of knowledge was passed down from generation to generation in a family but written in an indecipherable language lost to ancient history.

Then on one afternoon, the inheritor of the book fell asleep as he often would in the afternoons on warm summer days, and he dreamed of fantastical ancient worlds and people with incredible powers and history.When he awoke he felt compelled to locate the book and found that he could now read the andcient language.He found the book to be full of mission logs of the adventures and journeys of a planet in our galaxy.

This work is the translation of one set of related mission logs.

While providing the translation, the author has intended to translate wherever possible into words and expressions understandable in today’s common English.

Wherever possible, names have been attempted to be kept in as close to their original forms as possible with only slight variations to assist in typography or pronunciation.

Also, much research into these logs was performed to help in understanding of nuances in phrases and meaning.

Wherever possible and logical things may have been translated into the idea of matching things where actually it would be impossible to know exactly what the ancient language is describing.

One such example of this is a food consumed by two beings in one mission log.The translator, seeking out everything he could to identify what this food was, eventually settled on calling it French Toast with syrup and whipped cream because that was the closest food he could find that bore resemblance to the food being described in the log which was never actually named in the log.Of course they were not eating French Toast, a food that came to exist 1000s of years later as these logs are 1000s of years old and recorded long before there was a Joseph’s French who named the European recipe for bread soaked in egg and milk then fried after himself, as legend has it, in the 1720s in America.

Please keep these things in mind when reading.If you find what you think is an actual error in this mindset, the translator is all to happy to listen to your concern as long as it is presented carefully and consistently with your facts to back it up.If he agrees, he will be happy to make the change and credit you for your suggestion here in this log.Thank you!
