Faith-full
She needed to breathe. She needed air. The barnyard was no place to be free so she ran to the fields. She is a farmer’s wife but not a farmer. She has six children for him but it seemed like she still did not matter. She cooked, cleaned, encouraged, comforted and loved her husband but it was not enough. He would come home and yell at her in front of the kids. One day, as she was slicing tomatoes, he walked in.
“Are those the tomatoes I was going to sell?”
“No darling, I just got these fresh from the fields”
“If you eat all of them, we would soon die of poverty, you know? “
“These are the ones you said I could cook with, for you and the children”
“What is in that vase?”
“They were thebuttercup flowers growing beside the tomatoes. I brought them for you. Happy Valentines Day”
“Whatever love you want to show me should not cost me. You could attempt a wardrobe change rather than have on that ridiculous apron all day”
“I’m sorry. I’ll fix it”
“What about the food? Are we to starve?”
“No”
“Then get to it!”
She is visibly shaken. She runs out of the house far into the fields and screams. Help!
She hears footsteps coming toward her. But thinking it was her husband, she got up and was about to run again.
“Mum, it’s me”. It was her last child, a 4-year old boy.
She hurriedly wipes her face, brushes her hair back and looks up.
“What are you doing here sweetheart?”
“I brought you a glass of water. Please drink. You shed a lot of tears.”
