ADAYA
TW
The day does not run off quickly when you’re shopping on a Sunday with rich people. My arms have been crossed the whole evening. “Will you at least smile? Your resting bitch face is starting to get contagious,” Skyla, my best friend, says.
“Why’re you even friends with them?” My gaze is focused on the snobby group a little ahead of us.
She rolls her eyes and skips through the racks of clothes. “My father wants me to help promote his business by befriending some of his friends’ daughters.”
“Hm…seems like Daddy.” she spins bird-speed and gives me the look that always made me laugh.
“I told you to knock that shit off, Adaya,” She grumbles before continuing. “plus the deal was, I do this and dad gets to know Mason,” she says, I laugh.
“I mean the dude did spill black coffee on the man’s very expensive white suit.”
She smiles and rolls her eyes, “It was an honest accident.”
“Mhm, tell your father that.”
“Did you find a dress for the party?” I shake my head, “I got something that I can throw on,” I shrug.
Skyla makes her way over with a yellow dress in hand and a wide smile plastered on.
“No, Skyla. I’m not wearing that.” I eye the pile of color over on her arm.
Her smile drop. “But yellow looks so gorgeous on your skin, please wear it.” I hesitantly get out of my seat and take the dress, “Fine..only if it fits though” I made my way into the dressing room then slipped on the dress.
Although I wasn’t skinny, it hugged my waist and my hips. The dress has a deep cleavage and a slit going down the side, “Damn, I’m about to make some heads spin.” I giggle and take it off.
Skyla stands by the door and I grab my purse, “Don’t worry, it’s already paid for” her manicured fingers taps away at her phone.
“What did I tell you about doing that?” I huff a bit.
“I won’t stop doing it, you’re my best friend, Adaya.”
I smiled a little as we walked out, “Where are your friends at?” I ask. “They left because my friend was taking too long.” She chuckles.
We get in the car and she drives off, “Do you wanna go home or come to my house?” She asks.
“It’s alright, I’ll go home,” I say.
“That’s not a home, Adaya.” Her eyes are on the road but her voice was absolutely focused on me.
“Where am I supposed to go?” My gaze saunters to the window.
“Come live with me,” she says.
I shake my head, “I’m not gonna be a burden on you.”
“The guy is...why’re you still with him?” She sighs heavily.
“You know that I’ve been with him from high school and all the way through college,” I fold my lips.
“That doesn’t mean anything, Daya. I had boyfriends all the time but you don’t see me with those bags of dicks now.” she said.
“It doesn’t matter, Skyla.” I get out of the car when it comes to my stop ,“I’ll see you later.”
I watch as her car drives away before opening the door and getting hit with the strong scent of alcohol and smoke like a ton of bricks.
I inhaled a load of fresh air before walking in; the house that I had cleaned on Saturday was now a pigsty. There was half-eaten food and empty vodka bottles all over the living room, along with dirty clothes.
I make my way upstairs, not wanting to deal with the pig who caused the mess. “Where are you coming from?” I unfortunately heard from behind me.
“I went out,” I mumble as I take off my evening dress in the bedroom. “With who?” he asks but my lips remain folded. His fingers rapidly fly around my wrist tightly, “Who the fuck did you go out with, Adaya?”
I winced, “Skyla-” I desperately tried to pull away, “-I went out with Skyla.”
“I thought I told you, no more going out with that bitch. She’s not good for you, you need to remember that if it wasn’t for me your poor mommy would be dead.” His grip only got tighter.
“You’re staying home tonight, or I’m gonna burn whatever is that bag of yours.” He seethes. My head suddenly snaps to the side and a burning sensation spreads throughout my cheek.
He slammed the door and I went to my mirror and the sensitive skin was glowing red. The feeling was something I was used to.
I don’t give a fine fuck what he says; I’m getting out of this house one way or the other.
