Jessica Keller stood there at the door of the house she had lived in for the past 6 years. It hurt to leave after everything that happened. She had been in a relationship for the past 5 years with the love of her life, Kevin Lawson. They were engaged to be married and kept postponing their wedding because of their work. He was an emergency room doctor while she was a marketing executive. They have a daughter together whom he named Nicole after his late mother who died of breast cancer when he was 17. They had hoped to get married soon but life kept getting in thew ay. Then it happened. Kevin was working in the emergency room when a guy came in with his wife who was in a car accident. They worked to save her but were unable to do so and the guy was so distraught that he pulled out a gun and shot Kevin and two of the nurses before turning the gun on himself. They tried to save Kevin but he died right there on the floor. One of the nurses passed away as well. Kevin’s best friend and fellow doctor who wasn’t there had come to tell her after he heard. He was with her when she told Nicole that her daddy was never coming home. The funeral was the hardest. Her family surrounded her and gave her strength. She sobbed for hours in her twin brother’s arms. Her brother Jackson held Nicole as she cried. She was closer to him than Jake.

“Sis,” Jackson said.

“Hmmm,” Jessica said.

“Everything is packed up and ready to go, Nicole is settled in the car with Abby,” Jackson said. Jackson had come with Abby to help her pack up to move back to their hometown of Lubbock, Texas where they all still lived while Jessica and Kevin had lived and worked in Houston.

“I know, it’s just hard to leave,” Jessica said.

“I know sis, me and Jake will come back and wrap up the sale and get it ready for the next family to move in,” Jackson said.

“Thanks bro,” Jessica said.

“Jake said he’s got a room ready for you and a room ready for Nicole,” Jackson said. She nodded and looked around before closing the door and locking up. She got into the car and they headed out.
