Summary

Sixteen year old Ahlam Fakhri wants to go through her senior year of High School without any type of crazy scandals or drama. Of course that would have been easier with the presence of her best friend Jihad still by her side. And that would have been easier to achieve without the rumors that started about their falling out. Her parents and older brother become more determined to keep a close eye on her, creepy texts from an unknown number, and all roads leading back to the taboo yet glamorous city of Casablanca Morocco that her parents fled from to New York City plague her every step. And a lost past that she is slowly starting to remember haunts her sleeping hours. Anxious, and ready to blow, Ahlam decided to take matters into her own hand. When truths of why things with Jihad went so wrong are shoved into the light, Ahlam realizes she bit off more than she can chew and she manages to put herself, and everyone she loves in life threatening jeopardy. Stuck in a world she only read about, in a game that could seal both hers and Jihad’s fate, Ahlam draws on an inner strength, cunningness, and bravery she did not know she had within herself. She quickly learned a valuable lesson. While dreams do come true so do nightmares. She has to decide how this will play out now. Is this going to be her dream come true? Or her nightmare?

Trigger/Content Warning

To my readers,

This is a New Adult, dark romance book. In other words there will be triggering topics, and for the sake of my reader’s mental health I feel the need to list some overarching topics that will be present throughout this book in specific.

There will be scenes of disordered eating/forced vomiting, talks of sexual assault/coercion/rape, incest, murder, gore, violence, guns, drugs, substance use/abuse, racism, branding, physical abuse, torture, manipulation, sexualization, and topics of trauma and mental health. And these will be described with moderate description (not too vivid but not too vague).

Unlike what most dark romance books consist of, there will be no romanization of these topics, and the characters who committed certain actions (sexual assault/coercion/rape, inscest) will not get a redemption arc, nor will the parties who were at the receiving end of their behavior end up with them. I will not be romanticizing what has traumatized real human beings for a plot.

Keeping up with real world experiences, there will be minimal to no accountability in this book for these actions.

Due to these topics, the target range is 17-25. There will be no excessive smut scenes, so if this was something you were looking for, then this book is not for you. Know your limits, take care of yourself and your mental state, your mental health matters.
