Chapter 1

"Very nearly there sir, I have to say your face is very familiar have I drawn you before," the painter said with a thick French accent "Occasionally" Tintin replied. "Of course, I've seen you in the newspaper, you are a reporter?" The painter asked "He is a journalist" Eliza, Tintin's assistant and girlfriend of four years cut in. While Tintin leaned down to pat Snowy his snow white fox terrier "Be patient, Snowy, not much longer" he said. Snowy got up and walked off after a suspicious-looking man which neither of his owners noticed.

"There I believe I have captured something of your likeness," the painter said showing them the painting "not bad, what do you think, Eliza?" He asked taking the painting and showing her "very handsome, love" she told him "Snowy, what do you think?" Tintin asked going to turn to the white dog only to see him missing. Both Tintin and Eliza looked around for the fox terrier "Snowy" Tintin sighed shaking his head. "Let's go find him then," Eliza said as Tintin rolled up the painting and paid the man.

"Where's he run off to?" Tintin asked under his breath as they walked through the market. They walked past a stall selling mirrors, Tintin checked his hair and saw Eliza in the background. She was beautiful, her raven hair glistening in the sunlight, and her olive skin perfectly complemented her gorgeous green eyes. The small smile that graced her lips was so pretty. Tintin was brought out of his daze by Eliza's heavenly voice calling out to Snowy bringing him back to what they were doing.

They heard barking and then Snowy ran out of the crowd "where have you been, eh?" Tintin asked kneeling down to pat the dog while Eliza looked across the market "probably chasing cats again" she said as her eyes settled on the most incredible relic she'd ever seen "Tintin, look at this" Eliza said as Tintin looked up to see what she was looked at and he gasped as he got to his feet.

They both made their way closer to the glass cabinet "triple masted, double decks, fifty guns. Isn't she a beauty" Eliza said "that Is a very unique specimen, that is. From an old sea Captain's estate" said the old seller "the unicorn" Eliza said noticing a name on the side of the ship? "Man of war sailing that is, very old 16th century," the man said. "17th I would think" Eliza corrected the man "reign of Charles the 1st," the man said incorrectly "Charles the 2nd" Eliza corrected again "that's what I said, that's the finest ship that ever sailed, you won't find another one like it, lass," the elderly man said. "Oh I don't know," Eliza said thinking about if it was worth it "how much?" Tintin asked knowing how much Eliza wanted it but he was also extremely interested in the ship.

"2 quid," the seller said as Tintin nodded and pulled out his wallet, Eliza placed her hand on his wrist "you don't have to," she told him "I know but I want to," he said handing over the money. Just as the ship was placed in Tintin's hand, a man with an American accent ran up to them. "Hey, how much for the boat?" Asked the strange man, "I'm sorry but I just sold it to this young couple" the seller told him.

The man turned to them "tell me what you paid I'll pay you to double" he said panicked "thanks, but it's not for sale" Tintin said warily "look you two I'm trying to help you out, I don't think you realize this but you're about to walk into a lot of danger" the American warned, "what sort of danger?" Eliza asked "I'm warning you, get rid of the boat and get out while you still can these people do not play nice" was all the man said before fleeing. "What people?" Tintin quietly asked Eliza.

They stepped back into another, taller man "wonderful, don't bother wrapping it I'll take it as is, does anyone mind if I pay by check?" the man said gesturing to the ship. If you want to buy it you'll have to talk to them" the stall owner said pointing to Tintin and Eliza. "Well let them name their price" The man said clearly think he had won them over.

"As I already explained to the other gentlemen, it's not for sale," Tintin said politely. The man was trying to convince Tintin to sell over the ship when Eliza cut in "look sir I'm sorry but we have already said it's not for sale, good day," she said leading Tintin away from the man. Just before she was out of arms reach the man grabbed her arm hard enough to bruise it, Eliza let out a pained hiss. "Hands off my girlfriend" Tintin growled while Snowy barked and bit his ankle causing the man to release her arm. She didn't say anything and continued to lead Tintin back to their apartment.

"What is it about this ship? Why has it attracted so much attention?" Eliza asked rushing "Eliza, wait, stop, let me look at your arm," Tintin said asked as he put the ship down on the table and his girlfriend went to the study to find the magnifying glass. He walked into the study, pushed her into his chair then took off her coat and rolled up the sleeve of her sweater to see a darkening purple bruise. "It's fine, love, just a bruise, see, I've had much worse," Eliza said giving her worried boyfriend and kiss on the cheek.

"Now let's find that magnifying glass" she added looking through the drawer when Snowy ran in with it in his mouth neither noticing that a stray cat had snuck in through the window. Tintin kneel down and took it from him "thank you" just then Snowy noticed the cat and started to chase it around the small apartment destroying everything including knocking the ship to the floor and snapping the mast. Tintin knelt down and gently picked up the ship while Eliza gently grabbed Snowy to stop him from chasing the cat, the dog settled down in her arms.

Tintin turned to them angry at Snowy "look what you did, you broke it, bad dog" he said putting it on the table. Snowy curled up her Eliza's arms and looked to her for rescue "don't you look at her for help" he said. Eliza placed Snowy on the ground and made her way towards her angry boyfriend.

Unknowingly kicking a metal cylinder under the table. She gave him a quick kiss on the lips "don't worry so much we'll find someone to fix it, but for now..." She said calming him down and quickly walking over and grabbed Tintin's coat "we're going to the one place that might give us some answers," she said as Tintin took his coat from her and open the door and they made their way to the library unknowingly being watched.
