Chapter 1

The moon was high in the sky, its soft silver light dancing across the vast, mist-shrouded hills. The ancient chapel of black stone lay hidden in the middle of a dense forest, where it had been built long ago by the Guardians of the Immortals. The whispering of the wind and the rustling of the leaves played a mysterious melody on this special night.

Lucian looked down at his bride and felt an overwhelming energy within him. His dark brown hair was slicked back and his eyes shone like molten amber in the dim candlelight. It still seemed incredible that he could finally join his soul mate in marriage. After so many centuries, they had found each other. Pure happiness flowed through him.

Seraphina looked up at him. Her delicate figure was almost lost in the shadows of the stone statues that stood in the chapel. Her auburn hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders, covering the pale skin of her back. Her black dress contrasted beautifully with her pale skin. It made her look fragile and, in a way, graceful. There was a sparkle in her eyes that glittered like the deepest depths of an autumn forest.

Lucian took Seraphina's hands and the touch was like the promise of an eternity given long ago. They both felt the electric spark and smiled. Happiness seemed perfect - perfect to become in the next few moments.

The venerable priestess took the sacred book from the stone altar. "Let us begin the ceremony," she said, planting a kiss on the leather cover and walking around the altar with the book.

The two lovers gazed at each other. It was a moment that stopped everything around them. In that moment, all that existed was what united them: a love stronger than the night, that outlasted the infinite.

"Are you ready?" he whispered, his voice rough and soft at the same time, revealing a deep longing.

"Since the first moment I saw you," she replied, her voice little more than a whisper that faded into eternity.

Lucian had to force himself not to lower his lips to her mouth. Everything inside him was vibrating and yearning for her. He wanted to touch her, to taste her and finally to unite with her. But it was not yet time, the ritual had to be performed first. Until their souls were united, he could not merge with her physically. They had to resonate in harmony to have the strength to overcome everything - even their own weakness, which placed certain limits on their vampiric nature, such as physical union as man and woman.

The priestess opened the book, and a glistening mist rose from the pages. The atmosphere in the chapel was almost tangible with emotion as the priestess spoke the first words of the ancient ceremony. "Foedus erit foedus in aetemis temporibus." (The covenant will be a covenant for all eternity).

The flames of the candles trembled in the light breeze that came in through the open windows, and it was as if the world held its breath for a moment in this small chapel. Shadowy figures manifested, spirits of lost souls still trapped in the afterlife who wanted to attend the ceremony. Ancestors of the two vampires who were about to enter into an eternal bond.

"Foedus irrumpere nemo potest. Foedus dissolvere nemo potest." (No one can break the bond. No one can dissolve the bond.) The voice of the venerable priestess grew louder, vibrating melodically in the vaulted chapel ceiling, and more spirits appeared, summoned by the magical ritual. "Mulier et vir. In aeternum. Ad tertium dicendum quod anima perfectionem habet in anima alterius in aeternum." (Woman and man. For eternity. The soul finds perfection in the soul of the other for eternity).

The priestess closed the book, and the glittering mist rose before merging with the shadowy figures of the ancestors. "Lucian, you are the most powerful of the undead, yet you are weak without Seraphina." The priestess looked deep into his amber eyes before turning to the woman. "Seraphina, you are the most powerful of the undead, and yet you are weak without Lucian." Seraphina nodded at the words. Deep inside, she had long felt how fragile she was without her beloved soulmate. She could hardly imagine how she had survived all these centuries without him.

The venerable priestess turned away from the two vampires, walked around the altar and replaced the ancient book. Then she raised her hands and continued speaking. "Your souls must be intertwined. Close your eyes and concentrate on the thread of your soul connection."

Silence fell.

Lucian and Seraphina closed their eyes, searching for their souls and the bond that would bind them indestructibly for eternity. Breathing in unison, they felt the delicate connection and tightened their grip on each other's hands. The moon's rays bathed the couple in a mystical silver light. An eerie atmosphere filled the chapel and made the air vibrate.

But suddenly the silence was broken. A sound, barely more than a whisper, penetrated the sacred space from outside. It was the sound of footsteps - soft, determined, and ominous.
