Prologue
His lips joined mine, and I surrendered to the kiss with all my mixed emotions and twisted feelings. He deepens the kiss, and my hands surround his waist. I don’t care if the people in the coffee shop look at us strangely, I don’t care if we’re the center of attention, I don’t care if...
“Dan!” the voice reaches me, and I break the kiss. I turn on my heels and look him in the eyes.
He can’t believe what he just witnessed. His mouth is open, and his eyes search for explanations in mine, trying to understand, trying to find a valid reason for my behavior.
“Rick!” I tell him, holding back the tears that are trying to escape from my eyes.
“What does this mean?” he asks me, his voice just an angry whisper.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to find out this way,” I tell him. His look changes, his disbelief turns into anger, and his fists open and close without stopping.
He approaches me, and I’m sure he’s going to hit me. I close my eyes tightly and prepare for a blow that never comes. Slowly, I raised my gaze to him.
“I hope you’re happy. You just destroyed the most beautiful thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. I gave you my soul, my life, my heart, my whole being, and you chose to trample on it. You destroyed me, Brendan. I hope you’re happy from now on. Goodbye,” he says, turning around and leaving the cafe.
I watch his figure walking away. Unshed tears begin to fall down my face. I let myself fall to the floor when my legs weaken, and Sethcomes to hug me.
Goodbye, Frederick…
