First First meeting
The Bus, Yellow Bus, has been on its journey for almost 12 hours. It was one of the few bus that took long distance journey. Literally from one end of the country to another. While most people preferred to choose Rail or Airways. Very few now choose road for such long distance. Not to mention they were the wealthy ones. For this bus was one of a kind of luxurious bus. It had excellent shock absorber and fluffy cushions. The interior was cosy and the atmosphere was serene.
Suddenly it halted just outside of a small city. And she jumped inside the bus and opened the door to get inside when she halted with a start.
To say that the bus was packed would be an understatement. It was brimming with people. Everyone was standing in between the seats and were dancing like crazy to some Bhojpuri music that was going on in high sound. She closed the door with a start and turned back to the conductor of the bus to verify that it was really the bus that she had booked. It was then she came to know that the other passengers were members of a single family and she was the only outsider. Taking a deep breath, she again opened the door to enter inside the bus, that had cost a fortune. This time the inside of the bus was a little quiet than the first time, but it was not the less intimidating. This time every one who were standing and on the seats in the front of the bus were staring at her like she was an alien or something else. Just then a lady who was sitting in the very front seat on the right side offered her a little smile. She smiled back at her, some of the tension leaving her. She then turned left to take her seat. She sat in the window seat and cleaned the seat beside her.
After comfortably getting settled in her seat, she called her family to let them know that she had borded the bus. Her father asked her to take care of herself and be in contact with them all time. Agreeing to all he said, she laughed and disconnected the call. She was happy and excited. Her heart was beating fast. Just an hour from now, she would be with the one, she liked the most in this world. She had strong believe that love could strong against all odds. All the social distance, all the differences. After all her parents and brother were the striking example that love can conquer all. Her father was a dominant alpha, and her mother was a beta. Her brother was an alpha and her sister-in-law was a beta. And it did not stop at there. Her family and even with the people she knew were filled with combination that defied the role of pheromones and all those shit in today’s world. So it was no surprise that she found herself falling for an omega and wanting a future of them together.
But she also knew that when treading in this kind of relationship it was important not to force the other party. This relationship was hard to last even when both the parties were willing, so it was bound to turn disastrous, if one party was forced.
She laughed to herself, all the worries were for nothing. If anything she had learned from her family was to be loyal. And her case was different because she did not force the other party, it was rather the other way around. She was forced into this relation, though she wanted to be in this relation from the start.
So she was waiting impatiently for her lover to come to her. She had already rented a house for them, bought furniture, took a job in a place far away place. She rummaged inside her bag and retrived a box from it. Inside the box was a bangle, made of pure gold just like the heart of her lover.
Her lover was a princess, in real sense. She was the daughter of an industrialist and she was a beauty. Tara always thanked her stars that she choose her. She who was a beta, not an Alpha. So she had also vowed to herself from the start that she would be loyal to her in every sense.
The next stop was a small hotel, where the yellow bus halted for its passangers to have some tea and refreshments. And it was this stop where her lover was to meet her. As the bus halted, Tara waited for the other passengers to step down, and cleaned the seat next to her. The seat she had already booked for her lover. It was also the reason she booked this bus, for she deserved the best.
As she was got down the bus, with the bangle in her hand. Her heart was racing. She was sweating profusely. She wiped her hands in her jeans and started to look for her lover. And she spotted her in the other side of the road. She also noticed two cars at a distance. One car was familiar and another was a brand new BMW, and for the first time in five years a thought came to her, would her love be enough this time? And she knew the answer deep down.
It was the horn of the bus that brought her out of her thought, and she walked towards the bus, opened the door and settled in her seat. She looked down at her hands and finally it settled to her that in exchange of her token of love, she got a marriage card.
************************************************************
He didn’t know what came over him when he walked to the front of the bus and settled in the seat that he knew would receive its passenger. It came as no surprise that the one sitting in the window seat took no notice of him occupying the seat beside her. Her hear beat was slow but forceful in contrast to the time when she first entered the bus.
The surprise when she opened the door was comical. He and everyone in this bus was surprised. They had thought that when the passanger of the first two seats came, they would pull some strings and make them give the seats. But nothing went the way with how excited she was at first and how much in shock she is right now.
Her mobile rang once. She didn’t bother taking the call. It rang twice. Thrice. And then a forth time. This time she picked up the call.
“hello? Tara? Are you alright??” a male voice was heard.
Hmm.. she replied. She was looking outside the window now.
“ why didn’t you pickup the call? We were so worried about you.” He scolded her
“ I couldn’t hear the ringing.” She replied in a monotonous tone.
“ were you so deep into Shradha’s eyes that you couldn’t hear the call? Give her the phone. I will ask her to chide you” he laughed and said.
“she didn’t come bhai.” Tara dropped the bomb.
And silence followed her statement. It streached for too long with both the sides remaining silence.
“why?” the man on the other side was legimately angry this time. So much that his timber had dropped a few octane.
He then knew that Tara’s Brother was an Alpha. An Alpha brother who loved his Beta sister a lot.
“something about fated mate.” Tara replied.
“Fated mate?? Fated mate?? She is a bloody recessive omega whose father is a bankrupt business man. Fated mate for a recessive omega.”
“ why are you so angry bhai ?” tara asked
“because I know you won’t be. You are too good for your own good.” He sighed
“apparently not good enough to stop her from getting married to an Alpha.” Tara saidand scoffed.
“How did you know that she is getting married to an alpha? Don’t tell me.. she came to give you her wedding card?”
“Hmm..” tara hmmed
There was again a long silence. This time it was because the phone was on mute. He could swear that tara’s brother was swearing profusely on the other side.
“ where are youright now? “ her brother asked after the line was unmuted.
“ shreerampur.” She replied.
“ okay… okay.. “a deep breath “ don’t worry. Take rest. And do not skip lunch. Okay?”
“yes.”
“ promise on my life that you wont skip your food throughout the journey?” her brother asked again.
“bhai…. I promise.. promise.. happy?” it was for the first time that she smiled.
After talking some more, she shoved the wedding card in her bag and put on earbuds and turned totally to look outside without bothering with the man who was sitting near her.
But as he had suspected, Tara did skip lunch that day. It was understandable. She was a beta so she might not know but just like every other elite, her girlfriend cheated on her not because of a fated mate but because she wanted to. Because the alpha scent on the omega was overwhelming that it disgusted them who were on the other side of the road. So it was quite apparent that Tara was beta of the beta and her Omega had choosen an alpha over her.
It was the second day that she became aware of her surrounding. And he came to know that she was going to another place to work for two years. Also that she had 3 brother. All including her father were Alphas and that they were angry.
As the day progressed, Tara choose to sleep on the upper berth and left him in the lower seats. She would hardly come down. Only times she did come down was when the bus stopped for evening snacks or for the passangers to refresh themselves.
His cousins, brothers continued to be themselves and party shouting and howling and dancing. He was both thankful and irritated at them. There was no way to know what was going in her mind, like he did for omegas and other alphas, so the only way was her choice of songs, her conversation and her heartbeat. He was thankful because the loud music drowned her silent tears and the rare hiccups one night and also because afterwards he found her swaying to the music in the cabin.
She was a music person. He concluded.
Her journey was to end 3 days before them. He knew that if he slept this day, he would miss her going down and if someone came to pick her up. And he had a hunch that he would miss it. So it was no surprise that when he woke up in the middle of the night, he found theseat next to him empty. The upper berth was empty too. He wished that like everyother time, she would be outside sitting near the driver asking for some freash air. But this time as he opened the door, it was empty.
“She has left. Her brother came to pick her up.” His granny who was sitting next to him said.
Dejected, he went to sit on the seat when a light caught his eyes. With a start, he got up and looked at the empty berth, only to find her bag there. She must have forgotten her bag here. Will she come back to take it? Probably not.
Till next time.. he promised himself as he looked at her id.
Never had a journey gone so quick and so slow before.
