Chapter 1: On a Dirt Road to the old Farm House.

On a radiant sunny day, Kathy Martin took to the wheel of her sleek dark blue Hyundai Sonata as she navigated down the dusty country road towards the weathered farmhouse where her grandparents once resided. Alongside her was her spirited 18-year-old daughter, Julia Martin. Kathy, a 26-year-old woman with cascading blonde locks and mesmerizing azure blue eyes, stood at 5'7 tall, while Julia, a striking brunette with hazel eyes, surpassed her at 5'8. Originating from the town of Canton, the duo shared a strong bond as they cruised along. Kathy, a devoted librarian at the Canton Public Library, worked tirelessly to provide for herself and Julia after her husband had abandoned them. Meanwhile, Julia, a prominent figure at Canton High School, held various leadership roles including captain of the cheerleading squad, girls' basketball, and volleyball teams, as well as serving as the Student Body President. Not limited to her academic achievements, she showcased her musical talent by playing the slide trombone in the high school marching band. The love between Kathy and Julia was palpable, radiating a deep connection that was rooted from a place of mutual adoration.

After about an hour, they reached the quaint old Farm House. Kathy smoothly parked their sleek dark blue Hyundai Sonata on the weathered gravel driveway facing the charming old Farm House. Bringing the car to a stop, they found themselves standing outside a rustic brick fenced wall. Both of them gracefully exited the front seat, eager to explore the surroundings.

As Kathy contemplated the past, she thought back to her youthful visit at this vintage Farm House. Her grandparents, brimming with joy, enveloped her in tender embraces upon her arrival.

Julia scoffed, "Fantastic, just what I wanted to hear, Mom."

Suddenly Kathy started slowly walking away from the driver's side door of the Hyundai Sonata, she opened an old metal gate, walked through the gateway, she walked up the front porch steps, across the front porch sidewalk, up the front porch steps, across the front porch, she walked toward an old screened door, she opened the old screened door, she opened the wooden door, walked through the doorway and went inside, the wooden and old screened door closed behind her.

Julia was taken aback by the sudden development; her mother had gone into the old farmhouse, and Julia, in pursuit, entered as well to find her.

Julia called out "Mom, Mom, Mom, where are you? Mom, Mom," repeatedly, yet there was no response.

Neenee73: The author managed to weave instant tension and mystery from the get go. It was a balancing act that kept me guessing and made everyone look like they could be a villain which is on par with the great writers of mystery like Agatha and Doyle. I was jumping at every creak.
