Chapter 1

As Alexandria drove down the busy street, she couldn’t help but shout, “Woop! Woop!” Her favorite song was playing, and the excitement of starting her first semester at Greengate University made her heart race. She had dreamed of this day since her second year of high school, and now, it was finally here.

When she pulled up to the university, her eyes widened at the sight. The campus was a mix of old, ivy-covered buildings and modern glass structures. Students were everywhere—walking in groups, laughing, and just hanging out on the grass. It felt real now like she was stepping into a whole new world.

Getting out of the car, Alexandria took a deep breath and looked around. She noticed how different everyone was—some were in jeans and t-shirts, others in more stylish clothes, all blending into the lively atmosphere. It was a bit overwhelming but also exciting.

With her bags in hand, she started walking toward the entrance. A group of students passed by, their laughter making her smile. She saw a girl who looked friendly and decided to ask for help.

“Excuse me,” Alexandria said, feeling a bit nervous. The girl turned and smiled at her. “Do you know where the dorm rooms are?”

The girl nodded and pointed down a path lined with trees. “Yeah, just follow that path. You’ll see a sign for the dorms. It’s only a few minutes away. Welcome to Greengate!”

“Thanks!” Alexandria replied, feeling a little more at ease. She smiled back and started walking in the direction the girl had pointed. This was it—her new life was beginning, and she couldn’t wait to see what was in store.

Alexandria walked down the long path, taking in the beautiful scenery around her. The trees and well-kept lawns made the campus feel peaceful and welcoming. As she got closer to the dorms, she saw a large two-story building ahead. It looked both old and new at the same time, with ivy on the walls and big windows.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small slip of paper with her room number on it: Room 214. She took a deep breath and walked inside the building. The hallway was wide, with soft lighting, and a few students were moving about.

Finding her room, she unlocked the door and stepped inside. She gasped—it was much bigger than she had expected. The room was spacious, with high ceilings and lots of natural light coming through the windows. It felt warm and inviting.

As she looked around, she noticed another door connected to her room. It was slightly open, and she realized it led to another space. Alexandria understood she would be sharing the suite with someone else. The thought of having a roommate made her a little nervous, but also excited.

She set her bags down and took another deep breath. This was her new home for the next year. It was a big change, but as she looked around, she felt ready for whatever.

As Alexandria was unpacking her bags, her cell phone rang. She glanced at the screen and smiled, seeing “Mom” flashing across it. She quickly answered.

“Hello?”

“Hey, sweetheart! Have you made it safely? How’s the campus looking? Made any new friends yet?” her mom’s voice came through, full of warmth and excitement.

Alexandria chuckled. “Hi, Mom! Yeah, I made it safe and sound. The campus is beautiful, just like in the brochures. Lots of trees and old buildings mixed with new ones. It’s really nice.”

“That’s great to hear! And what about your room? Do you like it?” her mom asked, her tone eager.

“It’s actually way bigger than I expected,” Alexandria replied, glancing around the room again. “I have lots of space, and there’s a big window that lets in a lot of light. I think I’ll be comfortable here.”

“Good! I’m so glad you like it,” her mom said, a note of relief in her voice. “And what about meeting people? Have you talked to anyone yet?”

“Not really, just a quick chat with a girl who helped me find the dorms,” Alexandria admitted. “But I’m sure I’ll meet more people soon. I haven’t even met my roommate yet.”

“Well, I’m sure you’ll make friends in no time,” her mom encouraged. “You’re so friendly, and everyone will love you.”

“Thanks, Mom,” Alexandria said, feeling a bit more reassured. “I’ll keep you updated on how things go.”

“Please do,” her mom replied. “And remember, if you ever need anything, just call me, okay? I’m so proud of you, Alexandria. You’re going to do great.”

“Thanks, Mom. I love you,” Alexandria said, feeling a warmth spread through her chest.

“I love you too, sweetheart. Take care, and talk to you soon.”

“Bye, Mom.”
