It's Year 3045, where you find Benjamin and his crew of Cosmo Explorers, who were days away from leaving Earth's atmosphere to span the universe in search of a planet called Germic. A recently discovered earth-like planet, a mere 20 light years away.
By this time, Earth has become nearly unlivable, toxic rain clouds rain down and pollute the waters in many civilizations, continental size hurricanes decimate communities way more often than in the past. There are earthquakes that shake half the world, and volcanoes that spew lava non stop, ravishing whole countries.
These events start centuries ago, the citizens of Earth began expeditions in search of inhabitable planets for recolonization, knowing their home planet was inevitably doomed to come to an end. The world's superpowers as a collective; worked extensively on advances in Space exploration and discoveries, such as bigger, superior ships, defensive weapons, and related technologies which have made interstellar travel as easy as traveling on an airplane from New York to London with no flight attendants of course.
As the weather and environmental conditions on Earth became increasingly dire. Most of civilization hoarded into fortified domed mega cities, where billions of people lived their lives packed in a presumably safe habitat with artificial skies and controlled weather events. This has been the norm for centuries now.
So much so, most of the inhabitants of earth were oblivious to the severity of the chaos the planet was in. The remaining Governments of the world mostly shielded their constituents from the reality of the world's unpreventable life cycle.
The importance of Benjamin and his crew's mission was vital to the recolonization of America, plans were in the works to relocate nearly a billion people, hopefully to Germic within the next two decades.
With most of the preparations now complete and the time was impending for Benjamin to once again leave the woman he loved, and kids he adored, behind. Ben was sitting on the edge of his bed just waking up from a liquor induced slumber, a result of the going away party his family surprised him with the night before. His head was ringing, and his heart held weight. His mind swirled with memories and his heart twisted with emotions. He flopped back on the King-sized mattress, right as his girl walked in.
