Chapter 1- It Doesnt’t Start Here
Kara’s POV:
“SOMEONE CATCH HIM” I ran across the airport, trying to catch the thief who stole my phone
“F-ck my life” I slowed down, as the thief ran at an unreachable distance and my conscience finally told me to let go
“My flight” I bit my lip, staring at my wrist
“This is the final call for passengers boarding flight 372A, please proceed to gate 3 immediately” and that’s when I stormed off
“Excuse me” I slimmed past through tourists, my tremendous dodging skills earning me some unimpressed looks
“Here” I ran to the upmost front, holding my boarding pass, catching up on my breath.
“Just on time, welcome aboard” the representative gave me a smile, unhooking the chain set behind him.
I finally stepped on the bridge, my pounding heart being my only company as I walked towards the aircraft
After getting seated, I zipped open my duffle bag, taking out my diary
“August 17th, 2024” and my entry started
I spent the next few minutes jotting down my events of today, from detailing my cries while saying goodbye to my family at the Frankfurt Airport, all the way to almost missing my flight to Harvard
Yes, you read right.
I am going to Harvard.
I know for many people, going to Harvard is the last checkpoint on their checklists titled “how to live a successful life”, but for me, going to Harvard is the beginning of my story.
My story expands far across the horizons of education- although my academic preferences are primarily the reason I am on this flight.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a princess. well that changed as I grew older, and soon enough- I settled on becoming a doctor.
Like every typical middle class parents, my parents were delighted to know that at least one of their two children were interested in studying. Part of their happiness came from their lack of financial worry in the future.
That was until something happened, something that I would not even wish on my worst enemy.
“KARA RUN” he yelled at me, as he struggled from the monstrous grip of the mysterious attacker.
“Marco, I am not going anywhere without you” I yelled to my twin, tears furiously streaming down my face
“KARA, FOR ME- RUN FOR YOUR DAMN LIFE” Marco yelled back, just when the attacker stabbed him again
“No” I yelled, unconsciously taking a few steps back the dark alleyway
“I love you Kara, always remember that” he said to me, just as his eyes closed and his lifeless body fell on the ground with a thud
Faded sirens echoed at a distance, and upon hearing those, the attacker ran away from the crime scene.
Not knowing what to do, I collapsed on the ground, my hands covering my weeping face as my eyes looked at my lifeless brother.
“Im sorry Marco, I really am” I muttered to him, just as a crowd gathered around and some armed police officers pulled me from the ground to treat my wounds
Present
My eyes opened suddenly, my present coming back to me like a jumpscare.
“Im sorry I did not mean to scare you, I just wanted to let you know that they are serving food” the young guy next to me spoke., and my eyes drifted to his hand which still rested around my arm
“Apologies” he said, quickly removing it
I sat up straight, and waited till we were served food.
The rest of the time passed by quickly, and before I knew it, I was standing in Cambridge, in front of an extinguish old building, that had colored banners around it titled “Harvard University”
I looked around it, the empty building sending chills down my spine even in this broad daylight
“Tomorrow, everything is going to change” I turned away from the building, walking across the street
I entered a neatly kept building, the young faces glancing at my presence
I made my way towards the office, to grab my housing key
The volunteer asked me my name, and upon searching my list- gave me a rusty gold key
“Room “804” she said barely paying attention to me
I made my way up the elevator, the suitcase and duffle in my hand completely numbing my hand
I finally entered the room, well more of an apartment.
On my left side was a small kitchen, with everything from an electric stove, fridge to an oven. On my right was a small door, which I opened to reveal a shoe rack
I placed my shoes in that thing, and walked further into the living room
My Vision expand to the three rooms spread around the living room. One by the balcony door, the other two besides each other
I opened the door to the room by the balcony, hoping it to be unoccupied still.
My luck was not in my favor, as my eyes met with a very messy room. There were a few shirts laying around on the bed, the closet door half open with even more clothes on the floor
“I guess my roommate is already here” I muttered as I closed the door and walked towards the other room
The second room was also seemingly occupied, but more organized than the first one
I picked the final room, opening my suitcase by the door to quickly unpack before classes tomorrow.
“I wonder who my roommates are” I spoke to myself, recalling how none of us contacted each other for the entire summer. I just hope they are nice girls who all get along with me in this unknown city
The rest of my time passed by quickly and I finally went to take a shower to wash off my tiredness from today
I was already pretty tired, and so I went to bed immediately after
Some ruffling outside woke me up, and I jolted awake on my bed. Still, unfamiliar sounds scare the living crap out of me
I got out of bed hesitantly, slowly approaching the door
I peeked it open, and my sight was met with two backs involved in a heated conversation.
‘Must be my roommates’ I thought and swung the door open
My supposed roommates turned around, and suddenly, I found it hard to breath as my eyes met with two guys
My roommates were boys?
