War and peace in fantasy form
"I'm going to preface this review by stating that nothing needs to be this long and since this became a Subscription tier after a set number of chapters, that alone may colour this review. I buried this story in a tab for a time until I realized it was done. Story: The plot was interesting, the main characters worked well as individuals and then together. For the first 40 chapters, or so, the book moved pretty well. The main characters met, realized they were mates, and started their lives together. Then it reminded me of a D&D game where after X amount of time the heroes have to go on an adventure. This adventure causes them to meet more people, some good...some bad, and the good ones join the adventurers in their journeys. Each adventure tends to pick up powerful friends to help in later chapters. After a set number of adventures, or people who joined the cast, we then move on to the Battle Royal part of the story. There were mini adventures inside the battle, along with new friends whom we meet as they go on. It's the arrival of some of these friends that turns the battle for the heroes. Not to mention a plethora of new people who become mates to the others. Around 2/3 of the book it added a celestial component to the book, because who doesn't love those in Fantasy? Nothing like an omnipotent group of folks who are so far removed from normal interactions with shifters that helping them is out of the question. They just give off strange phrases and comments that the heroes now have to interpret to see what they want. Now we start to close the plot lines in the story and let me tell you there were a ton of them. The author did a good job recreating the Wheel of Time in plotlines and closing each off as we got towards the end of the book. They get almost to the end before the celestial component shows up again, in a remarkably short section of a couple of chapters, which is strange because it was set up as a major part of the book. Reminded me a bit of the original Hellboy movie, in that the whole movie was set up to confront this major villain and Hellboy killed him off in under 5 minutes. anticlimactic I believe is the word. The feel good ending shows up as expected, the epilogue sets up the others in this series, that I will never read by the way, nothing needs to be this long. I really like rereading stories but a story at 135 chapters is like going through high school algebra again. Once was enough. I am a fan of standalone stories, but in this case I would have preferred this story be cut into 3-4 books. It would have been easier to read, allowed for rereading, and made things easier to understand. In my opinion of course. "

"This is by far one of the BEST books I have EVER read. This Author's mind is truly brilliant. You can vividly see when someone has found their passion & is invested in their craft. In true honesty I'm amazed at the different depths in which this Author's mind is able to go. Extraordinarily Brilliant!"
