Chapter 1.The beginning

It all starts with lots of cars moving at high speed in New York City, and citizens walking, minding their own business.

A young African American, Carlos, dressed in his jet-black suit and tie, with hazel eyes, smiles at his mom, Mrs. Veronica, who whispers softly into his ears; "Aren't you ready for school yet, Carlo?"

She calls him "Carlo". It's her unique way of calling her son's name.

He is a 19-year-old African American whose dream was to study Criminology, but his dreams were shattered, and he had to settle for Psychology at Guardian Heights High School.

His father, W.B. Robinson, was a very influential African American man and a politician. He was a man of high esteem, with great knowledge and intellect and sophisticated abilities. He was also a scientist who created many kinds of technology and androids, until he decided to give them all up and get into politics. His family were among the richest and most influential families in New York City...but, he, on the other hand, wasn't the kind of person moved by the wealth and political affairs of the state. He was more of a simple gentleman. His mother was a white, blonde and attractive young woman, with bright blue piercing eyes. She was the daughter of the Senator of New York City.

It was rumored that his father's marriage to his wife paved the way for him to get into politics.... That could be true. His father's dream was to be a politician right from childhood.

Growing up, his father was a poor carpenter who couldn't afford to pay for young Robinson's school fees.

This went on for a while, until one day, his father, W.B. James, did a very wealthy politician a favor. He introduced the politician to a very big estate deal that paid off and made him a billionaire.

To return this favor, the politician asked W.B. James what he wanted, as a form of appreciation.

W.B. James replied "I want to stand out as a person of political demeanor, I want to show people the right path to follow and pave more pathways for people.

The politician replied with a warm smile, "Well, it seems that your dreams are wild, and you're solely interested in politics, Mr W.B. James...well, you're lucky, because your life story is about to change for the better".

From that day, W.B. James was given a political position that changed his son's life and their years until his death.

W.B. James' legacy paved the way for his son, Robinson, into politics, which brought him to fame and a multi-billionaire, after which, he was elected as a co-senator of New York City.

W.B. Robinson always wanted his son Carlos to follow in his footsteps, but he never wanted to. He had his own dreams and passions.

He was obsessed with studying Criminology because he noticed he could solve cases in his head and render solutions still in his head at an early age.

Unfortunately for him, any school he applied for, his father secretly jeopardizes it by paying the school off, not to admit him.

He, out of frustration, decided to apply for another course. He chooses psychology for two reasons.

His next plan was to study Psychology in high school, then further his studies on a master's program in Criminology.

His father overlooked his final choice and focused on other things in front of him.

One day, WB Robinson had a great misunderstanding with Mr. Williams, a more wealthy and well-known politician from London, who came to the US to sign a contract with an estate manager, Michael Floyd, a very wealthy estate manager.

He had promised to pay Mr. Williams to help him secure some mansions in Los Angeles. Mr. Williams cooperated and kept his end of the bargain.

Afterward, he refused to keep his own end of the bargain, making himself appear as a man who doesn't keep to his word...a notion so bad for his reputation.

That's not all. His political tenure didn't offer anything to help the citizens. Under his reign, crimes like murder, vandalization, rape, and all sorts of activities still went on.

A lot of criminals and kingpins walked the streets of New York freely. A rumor was once held that he was a secret spy, whose motives are still yet to be uncovered. One citizen had claimed to have seen him coming out of a tinted car alking with a masked man.

A question struck the audience. What would a co_senator be doing with a masked man?"

This was absolutely unacceptable and suspicious to everyone who heard about this rumor.

As for Carlos, an African American, he didn't really see himself as someone who could make contributions or even see himself as part of his own family... because, he was always given whatever he wanted at any time he demanded. He always got the best treatments an only child would get.

But yet, he always suspected that something was missing somewhere, because he always had this aura that he was sitting in a mansion full of beautiful things with anything he wanted, but yet, one thing was still missing.

"What's this missing piece?" "Why do I feel like I'm missing something?" He would always ask himself repeatedly.

He faced some scenarios of racism, but, it wasn't exactly the way other black people faced theirs, it was quite different and alarming.

This always raised more questions in his head. "What makes me special in this universe as a colored folk?" I see my fellow black folks being thrown to the floor like animals, and I'm being treated and honored like a prince in this cursed world".

He wanted answers to all these questions...but he would always wonder and ponder to himself; "Questions don't just pop into one's mind all of a sudden, but these haunting questions are drawing patterns in my head, but they never seem to get absolute answers...I might be going mad!"

On a little evening, he goes for a little walk around town. He would always be accompanied by a bodyguard in a Limo, but tonight, he managed to escape their mansion and this series of over-protection from his bodyguards.

His purpose for leaving home was to stroll the streets of New York and see for himself how the citizens were suffering and know if he could find answers to his questions.

He, for the first time of his life, saw something that sparked his quest for more answers.

As he stood close to a grocery store, two armed masked criminals ran into the grocery store and with violent force one of them shouted at the old cashier of the store: "Hey, get me all the cash you've got here so I don't blow your head off, old man!" The frightened old man rushed and picked all the cash he made from sales and gave it to the masked robbers.

The masked men smirked and replied; "Thanks old fool" and shot him dead, laughing loudly as they made for the exit of the grocery store.

He, watching all this happen in terror, went after the masked men, but he wasn't fast enough to keep track of them... A limo, obviously stolen, he presumed, came out of nowhere and the two masked men got in.

The shocking thing about this entire scene, was that he recognized this Limo which he had earlier concluded was stolen, and pondering deep thought about what he had witnessed, he thought to himself, shivering in fear, "Let this not be what I'm thinking! Wait! Is that...is that one of my dad's limos? No, it can't be...obviously, my mind keeps playing tricks on me, it can't possibly be... But what's going on in this city? Everywhere is in bad shape and flames of terror are everywhere"

But, unknown to him,  this is just the tip of an iceberg. He is on the verge of finding the truth about who his father truly is.
