Chapter 1 left behind.

Zola-Brisa

I ran away from the heat I felt against my back running straight into a frozen lake my bare feet ached I looked behind me to see two sets of emerald green eyes lurking in the trees, looking up at the sky two sets of glowing dark ruby eyes watching me hidden in the clouds I looked down at my feet two sets of piercing sapphire eyes looking up at me, and ever presence of others in the distance. Heat at my back cold at my feet I tried to run free panic overtaking me. The crack in the ice dropping me deep. I was soaked but I wasn’t cold heat overtaking me as I broke the surface gasping for air and looking around me. It took me a minute to realize I was in my bed, and it was just a dream, but I was drenched in sweat from the summer heat shivering as the AC hit my skin. Looking out the window as a summer downpour started. I groaned at this maddening dream. My sister dragging her feet flopped next to me.

“Did you have the same dream again?”

“Yeah. You?”

“Yeah.”

It was weird we had the same exact dream but we were always alone being twins we swore we would always be together but what was this dream telling us that we could not see? Would we be torn apart?

“This is getting really annoying.”

I had to agree with her.

“Might as well get up early.”

“Pilates today?”

“Yeah, I’m filled with so much nervous energy.”

“Ditto we leave tomorrow for the dorms.”

“I don’t know if I’m ready for Medeis University.”

“Ready or not we need to go I can’t stay in this house much longer.”

I sighed throwing my head back home is supposed to be comfort and happiness, but we always lived on edge as our parents tried to control every aspect of our existence. We even lied to them about what school we were going to. They thought we were going to a human college. They will flip when they find out, we might not return for a while.

“True. We should start looking for jobs now, so we don’t have to depend on them for anything.”

Cari-Indira

We dragged ourselves out of bed and worked out for an hour before showering and heading out of the house before they woke up, we made our way to the café we had been working at all through high school. Walking holding hands I couldn’t imagine a world without my sister. We were identical to everyone we knew our differences though tiny they were there, but no one ever bothered to learn what.

The two of us had dark blue hair that looked black. But under any intense light, it almost twinkled like a star-filled night with silver in the front. We both had hazel grey eyes which to some humans made us seem creepy especially at night under the moonlight something that was told to us at a party.

“Do you still think the dreams mean danger?”

“I feel like the dreams may be a glimpse at both the danger hovering over us and saviors awaiting us if that makes sense.”

I nod it did, we ran in our dreams, but we both agreed we didn’t feel fear when we woke. We walked into the café expecting to work our last shift, but we walked into a goodbye party from our coworkers and the café owner Teresa. We were happy it was with people that made us feel seen, we were going to miss them. Henry brought us punch and we danced and had fun.

Pele

I was exhausted after our moms had everyone over for our last day along with the Barrington and Hawkins sisters. They would not stop trying to convince us to make these girls our chosen mates but the four of us couldn’t stand the four of them. My mom wanted me and my twin Hugo with The Barrington sisters and our pairs Bylar and Eryi’s mom wanted them with the Hawkins sisters. Dragons and shifters could find a pair equivalent to a mate. But it was more along the lines of a platonic situation. I mean we can play with the same female. But we don’t usually touch each other, not that it is unheard of. It is more in line with a perfect match for battles and leading mostly “Alphas” have a pair. Our situation was odd because we were two sets of twins no one had heard of twins having a pair before but that’s how it’s been since we were kids when we met in school an instant bond that brought our families and clan together no more feuding and fighting when their princes the future heirs were pairs. I rolled over and groaned as our alarms went off again.

“Hugo!”

I threw a pillow at him, he could sleep through almost anything. He did not even fully wake as he launched an attack with every pillow from his bed at my head with perfect precision.

“I’m up.”

We moved quickly hoping to leave early to miss the big to do the tears and the drama and most of all the girls. We thought we were smart packing our cars the night before trying to sneak out the door. But our moms, sisters, and the annoying girls were lying in wait already holding Bylur and Euri hostage.

“We were just about to warn you.”

Eryi said through our paired link. My brother and I groaned and put on our best fake smiles ready for the long goodbyes.

“Mom, we have to go.”

Bylur grumbles we give our families hugs ignoring the girls we speed walk to our cars. Rose, Heather, Lily, and Blossom ran after us; we let a warning growl out. We do not know why they cannot take the blatant rejection we aren’t even hinting anymore we just straight up tell them to back off.

“Guys wait we didn’t give you a proper goodbye.”

Blossom thought she was being flirty and cute, her voice like nails on a chalkboard holding onto Bylur’s arm.

“Bye and good riddance.”

Hugo grunted, pushing Lily off and I ducked out of Heather’s reach.

Rose tried to kiss Eryi. He pushed her face away I laughed so hard as his hand covered the entirety of her face.

Rose

I couldn’t believe they were leaving like that. All we have ever wanted was to be theirs we tried everything to get their attention even dating their friends or teammates and they just kept pushing us away. Heather stomped her feet while Lily wiped her cheeks. We all thought, finally if we went off to college, we could be closer no parents around hovering. But those dumbasses got the schools mixed up. We all agreed on Mayson College on the West Coast but they got their paperwork mixed up and ended up at Medeis University all the way on the East Coast or so they told us. I was starting to wonder how true that was considering how they dismissed us. We already threatened most of the girls at Mayson, on the tours and orientation, but we had no clue what or who would cross their paths at Medeis. I was determined to be queen no matter what.
