Pure Love - Mother and Child
The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a golden glow over the horizon. I sat at the kitchen table, my hands wrapped around a steaming cup of tea, watching as the world slowly came to life outside the window.
It was quiet, peaceful.
the kind of morning that felt like it belonged only to me.
and then i heard soft patter of tiny feet on the hardwood floor.
"Mommy?"
i turned, and there she was, my little girl, still in her pajamas, her wild curls sticking up in every direction. her sleepy eyes blinked at me, and a small smile tugged at her lips.
"hey, sweetheart," i whispered, setting my cup down and opening my arms to her.
without a word, she ran to me, climbing into my lap and snuggling close. her warmth seeped into me, and i kissed the top of her head, inhaling the familiar scent of lavender from her shampoo. she fit so perfectly in my arms, as if she had always belonged there.
"Did you have a good sleep?" i asked, stroking her hair gently.
she nodded, her little hand reaching up to trace the lines of my necklace, the same one i wore every day, an old silver locket someone close had given me. it had become her habit, tracing that necklace whenever she was close to me. it was like her way of making sure i was there, solid and real.
"i love you, mommy," she whispered, her voice soft but full of certainty, like it was the most natural thing in the world to say.
my heart swelled, and tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. "i love you too, baby," i replied, my voice catching a little. it amazed me sometimes, the way her simple words could make everything else in world fade away, leaving just the two of us in the perfect little bubble.
we stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, wrapped in a cocoon of quiet love, the world outside could wait. in that moment, all that mattered was her, safe in my arms, her tiny heartbeat against mine.
as the sun climbed higher in the sky, i felt her start to wiggle. she slid off my lap, her energy returning with a new day. "Can we make pancakes?" she asked, her eyes lighting up.
i smiled, standing up and stretching. "Pancakes it is."
we made our way to kitchen, and soon, the house was filled with the sound of batter being mixed, the sizzle of pancakes on the griddle, and the sweet smell of vanilla. she stood o a little stool beside me, her hands covered in flour as she tried to help pour the batter into the pan, every now and then, she would sneak a bite of chocolate chips when she thought i wasn't looking, giggling every time i caught her.
after the pancakes were ready, we sat down together at the table, our plates piled high with golden, fluffy goodness. she poured syrup with a little too much enthusiasm, and it spilled over the edges of her plate, pooling onto the table. but she just laughed, her eyes sparkling with joy.
"These are the best pancakes ever, mommy!" she declared, her mouth full of food.
i laughed, wiping a bit of syrup from her cheek. "i'm glad you think so."
as we ate, i watched her, so full of life, so innocent. and in that moment, i realised something.
this was it. this was what happiness looked like. not in grand gesture or big moments, but in these quiet, simple mornings. the feel of her small hand in mine, the sound of her laughter filling the air, the warmth of our love wrapping around us like a blanket.
it was the kind of love that didn't need words or explanations. it just was. and it was everything.
after breakfast, we curled up on couch, her head resting on my shoulder as we read her favorite book for the hundredth time. she didn't care that she already knew the ending, she just loved being close, hearing my voice as i told the story.
by the time we reached the last page, her eyelids were drooping, and i knew she wouldn't be able to fight sleep for much longer.
"one more story?" she asked, her voice soft and sleepy.
i smiled, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "how about we save the next one for tonight?"
she nodded, her head heavy on my chest, and within moments, she was asleep, her breathing slow and steady. i held her a little tighter, my heart full to bursting with a love so deep, it felt like it might overflow.
there was nothing extraordinary about the day, no grand adventures or monumental milestones. but that's what made it beautiful. in the quiet moments, in the everyday routine, there was a love so pure, so perfect, that it filled every corner of my heart.
and i knew no matter what the world threw our way, we'd always have this.
a love that was simple, kind, and unwavering.
a love that made everything else fade away.
