What is your opinion?

Not your traditional fated-mate-fantasy

"I was lured into this book by its cover, but I’m not mad at it. High fantasy with a lot of lore to unpack. You have to read all in order to piece it together. The story is really interesting and has me hooked. There is such a fine line between love and hate and Lauren does it justice with the two MC’s. The characters are all really interesting and leave you asking for more. Too many POV’s IMO but that’s my own preference. While there are a lot of POV’s Lauren does an amazing job at not overwhelming you or confusing you. The world building is so well done, it’s very easy to visualize. My only issue is at times there are too many metaphors that can pull me out but, a poet is a poet and I’m not mad at it. If you are looking for two fated mates who are immediately into one another... not here. You’re going to have to work for it... by reading this book. But it will be worth its. I am still reading this book as it’s ongoing but wanted to give my review so far. Might update once it’s completed"

The First Five Chapters - Dark Shifter High Fantasy

"Overall, this read like high fantasy and I enjoyed the pacing — especially liked hopping around to different characters and seeing the world from all kinds of POVs. My favorite and most compelling character was Aine Raven McMort, and she also has excellent taste in music with Phantom of the Opera. Overall, this gave me similar vibes to Wendy Alec’s The Fall of Lucifer. Interesting high concepts and I wanted to keep reading. An area I would suggest for improvement: some of the terms could be introduced earlier (or dissected more) to help the reader pick up on the lore quicker. Appreciated the chapter notes with terms to help me track things, a godsend when authors do this! I enjoyed the writing style of larger words and concepts, and am curious how Alpha X himself will come into contact with other characters in this world. Will keep following this author!"

The mysterious Alpha

"I started reading this story after getting hooked to The Rebellious Mate, and I’m glad I did! Though chronologically, these stories set in the same universe take place the other way around, they can be read as standalone stories. The worldbuilding and writing is phenomenal! Lauren’s writing will suck you right in. The setting is dark and sometimes gruesome, but so very intriguing. The characters are all complex and morally grey. The main characters' motives make for an interesting contradiction of stakes. I really wonder who will get their way in the end, Ora, Áine or Oppenheimer, maybe all of them, maybe none, I can't tell yet! I highly recommend for all lovers of fantasy with a side of drama and a hint of romance, especially for those who are into shifters! "

Alpha X

"Lauren's book Alpha X was my introduction to a whole new world of reading. I was hooked from page one. Immersing yourself in thoughtfully created characters with strong and well written dialogue, this book is a must read. It will definitely not be the last book I read by this amazing author. Great storytelling, well chosen words, perfect writing. This book is a keeper and the author one to remember. What a journey! 5 Stars !"

Layered characters and vibrant worlds await

"This book offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience, presenting a narrative crafted with such ingenuity that it feels unlike anything I have encountered before. The world-building is an art form in itself—elegant and richly detailed that brings the setting to life. Each element of the story's universe feels meticulously designed, drawing you in and making the world feel almost tangible. The characters are profoundly layered, each with their own distinct voice and depth that make them unforgettable. The dialogues are not merely exchanges but windows into the characters’ souls, revealing their emotions, motivations, and relationships with a subtle mastery that’s rare to find. It is worth mentioning, however, that the story introduces a large cast of characters, which might feel overwhelming at first. It takes a couple of chapters to fully immerse oneself in the narrative and grasp the relationships and dynamics at play. But once the initial adjustment is made, the book blossoms into an enthralling and deeply satisfying journey. And yet, the story is far from complete—there are tantalizing threads and mysteries yet to be unraveled, leaving you on edge and eagerly anticipating what will happen next."

The first 10 chapters

"After reading the first 10 chapters of “Alpha X” I have to say I’m excited to see where this story will lead, and can’t wait to read more. First, by no fault of your own. Your style of writing wasn’t my cup of tea, but you have a fantastic way to telling a story. Your dialogue is strong, and the characters are wonderfully written. I can almost picture them as if they were real people. Second, some of the chapters were a bit difficult to keep up with, but that could be on my end as well. Third, just a few minor punctuation errors, but overall… you have a fantastic story I would recommend to others! "

Shifter story... What A Freash Breath of Air!

"To be honest, I was debating between 4 to 5 stars before giving this review. On one hand, after reading the 4 chapter I kind of enjoyed the story. To me it is very unique and unlike anything I've read here in Inkitt. But at the same time I need to concentrate a lot to understand the plot of this story. Overall it's more of 4.5 round up! It is not the author's fault my english vocabulary is limited ㅎㅎㅎㅎ!♡♡ Alright, so, Lauren! I will start with: GIRL U KNOW HOW TO INSERT HUMOR IN UNEXPECTED CONVERSATION! And that's what I caught first since the very fiest chapter. I dont know if it is just me but I found that Hans' exhaustion toward Horde amusing and also Lyssa and Aine's banter is funny. No idea why no one click funny emoji other than me? Do I just have a very dry humor? 😅 As of the story, I'd say it almost feels like a high fantasy. At least for me. It is a shifter world with a creator named Horde who built world for shifter but also had made some killings in the past and sacrifice innocent lives to achieve that goal--cue Aine's family here, that makes her hate him. She hates him for wounding her and wants to rake revenge, especially when he challenged her with the Hellridge. Now Aine is in the path to fight back to destroy the monster that lives inside her. It is still so early that after 4 chapters thats basically what I get (but also we see more of Aine's life with her other shifter friends and also mum and it is heartwarming love it 😍). Every chaper is essential to build the plot and I think Lauren did a good job in unraveling the story little by little--ehem, what with the last chapter surprised me lol. My only concern would be in some chapters it is really challenging to understand, especially chapter 1. Which is for me quite sad as this is a good story and if the first chapter is challenging some readers may decide not to continue. The remaining chapters are lighter and easy to follow, so I am not sure if it is because of the semi-high fantasy writing style that the author used or what cause the last 3 chapters were easier to understand, even for non english speaker. Maybe its just me? The character is portrayed very well and the banter is lively and in some moments funny. I would like to know if there will be more chapters as I am interested to see how it goes. Good job lauren♡"

Great start

"Books starts off well. You could expand a bit more on the world and characters as I feel it's a bit rushed. The grammer was good and it has potential for a good stiryy"
