"I thought this one was pretty good! Very well written and had strong links to the previous installment, which I’d read a while ago in a slightly different iteration. The one criticism I have is that some of the chapters with Luke in prison got very slow."

The characters have a depth that makes you love them and want the best for them. The research into the time period is spot on and balanced perfectly - not overwhelming but rich in details that immerse you without drowning you. Cannot wait for the next book but this one definitely ended on a high note!"
Utterly Addictive — Marianne & Luke Have My Heart
"I fell for Marianne and Luke back when they were just supporting characters in the author’s other book – In the Lions Den, so seeing them take center stage here was an instant must-read. I love this author’s prose so much I’d read anything she writes, and this one proves why. The pacing is beautifully balanced — every chapter a mix of mystery you’re dying to solve and reveals you never see coming (and I’m usually a prolific plot oracle!). The ‘smut’ scene that really is so much more? Absolutely gorgeous — hot, yes, but layered with emotion that made it unforgettable. Marianne is fierce in a quiet way, the kind that sneaks up on you and stays, while Luke is this perfect mix of cinnamon roll, drama queen, and a very unique alpha male. I find myself waiting for every single scene from his POV. Side characters like Freddy Grady and Theo are exquisite, but Grady? Winner, hands down. The historical setting feels vivid and believable, even to someone who doesn’t know much about the period. The prison scenes, in particular, are raw and heartbreaking. The writing style is rich, descriptive, and perfectly suited to the era. This book made me feel everything: heartache, tension, warmth, love, hope, dread. If you love mystery, historical novels, and intense slow-burn romance — especially with a ‘he falls first (and harder)’ dynamic — you’ll devour this. Marianne’s portrayal as a disabled heroine is deeply realistic, with all the physical and emotional complexities that come with it. I can’t wait for part two, and honestly, I’d happily read about Marianne and Luke long after their eventual HEA… if they even get there. They’ve got a lot of obstacles left — but if Luke’s bad luck is the price for a love like his, sign me up. "
