Part1

“We all need to strive for perfection” The words emblazoned on the pixelated fuzzy screen read. It was flashing around a large monitor, blinding its viewers parsing by. The text flashed off its surface only to be replaced with “So should you! Go to your local surgeon today!“. Soon the words faded off the smooth panel and blank space replaced the pirecing words leaving me staring at my distorted reflection. Struggling to continue to the shops my body contorted away from the screen as it continued spitting out the repeating words. Today at work I was deemed imperfect, sent home in disgrace, and banished from my work until I went to the surgery. Of course, it was pre-booked the moment I left the building for the closest possible time, this Tuesday.

“Shhh don’t stare!”

Harsh voices threw me out of my trance. Scanning the vicinity, my eyes catch on a mother and her young daughter standing on the other side of the road, staring at me in horror. Despite scolding her daughter, the mother still stood in shock with her eyes fixed on me, flitting between my red wristband and masked face. I shrank further into the shadows cast by the towering buildings brushing against my left shoulder and darted down a worker’s ally. A place away from curious glances and scared stares. Down here the air is heavy from car fumes whose sound blinds my ears. Temperatures soaring over 35 degrees, the cloak wrapped around my body burns my skin with imposed heat, coating it in a thick layer of sweat. Before the heat becomes unbearable, a sharp corner leads me bursting out onto a main road and my legs walk the familiar route back to my apartment.
