First
I love you, Sarah."
Those words still echoed in Sarah’s ears, as if they were spoken just yesterday. But in reality, five months had passed. The memory of that day often surfaced in her mind, pulling her back to the sweet moments that now felt distant. Its beauty still lingered, but was slowly fading with time. His voice, his smile... everything was still vivid in her memory, but now it felt empty, like fleeting shadows.
That love only lasted for a month after they became husband and wife.
After that day, the warmth that once blazed began to fade, like the night breeze slowly extinguishing a candle flame. His warm smile dimmed, his tight embrace loosened. Every word he spoke no longer carried the sweetness it once did. He began to distance himself, leaving Sarah in an empty space filled with memories.
Adam, her husband, entered the room with calm yet cold steps. Without a word, he headed straight to the wardrobe and took the watch from the shelf. Sarah, seated at the dressing table, watched him through the mirror, waiting for any sign of affection or a warm greeting. But nothing came. His gaze never once turned towards her, as if her presence didn’t exist in that space. Sarah’s heart beat slowly, matching the growing pain in her chest. The coldness of the moment was sharper than the silence that had enveloped them recently.
Sarah took a deep breath, holding back the surge of emotion. Finally, she called out, her voice trembling softly, "Adam..."
Adam paused for a moment, but only briefly, before continuing to fasten the watch around his wrist. No reply, no glance. Sarah waited, hoping her husband would turn, even just for a moment. But all she received was the freezing silence, colder than the night breeze outside the window. Adam walked out of the room without a word.
Suddenly, Sarah stood, her steps quick yet hesitant. Without thinking, her hand grasped Adam's arm with what little hope remained. "Adam..." she whispered, her voice full of pain and nearly broken hope.
Adam stopped, but didn’t turn. His body stiff, as though her touch meant nothing. Sarah’s fingers tightened their grip, but the warmth she longed for never came. "Please... Don’t do this to me. Give me time, a chance to fix all of this," she said, her voice trembling, her eyes brimming with tears she could no longer hold back.
But Adam only gently pulled his arm away, coldly, without emotion. "Sarah, how many times do I have to repeat myself? Don’t force me to hate you even more," he said flatly, then walked away, leaving Sarah standing there, crushed in the deepening solitude.
