Prologue

I ran into the hallway, sweat flowing down my brows. My hands shook as I searched for my phone. It was in the bag, I knew it was in it. And I had left it on the couch. There was no time. Not enough. I knew they were here.

They had been here for a long time. I should have known that. Fool. That’s what I was.

Without making a noise, I searched for the bag. Once found, I pulled out my cell phone and speed dialedhisnumber. A few beats later it went to voicemail.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Please don’t do this to me right now. Please

I took a deep breath, glancing a moment on my right side as I quickly typed a message.

“Now, now. Why don’t we stop this game of cat and mouse?” One of them said from behind.

Dread rolled in me. Sand filled my mouth.

I slowly turned around to come face to face with them in black. He uncovered the mask, and I gasped. “Out of everyone, you?”

He smirked. “I was the best bait. Wasn’t I?”

From his left another man, covered from head to toe in black, came forward. He removed his mask and my soul left my body. There was no saving now. No hope. I was done.

He took a step in my direction. I took a step back. He took another, and I fell on the couch. In an instant he was hovering over me. With eyes narrowed, lips curled, he grabbed my jaw hard. “Are you going to tell me where it is or not?”

I breathed fast and heavy, my lips trembling. “Once he finds out about this, he will kill you.”

“But he will never find out about this. I will make sure of it.” He said, as he grabbed my hair and yanked me on the coffee table.

It broke, every cell in my body screamed in pain. Some of my ribs burned as I rolled over to crawl away from him. His foot met my cheekbone and everything felt dizzy. My vision darkened with red black dots.

My breath hitched as someone slammed something heavy on my head. I felt the pool of blood staining my cheek. My eyes become droopy with no energy in me.

Whispers continued and I gave in to unconsciousness with a thought I never would have spoken in my life.I wish I had never fallen in love withhim.

Walker of the Dark: Short but definitely intense and amazing. Rage and Aspen were amazing together and I am glad to see a woman who is strong, determined on what she wants and well connected as a bonus. Also enjoyed seeing how even the Mafias is not all "stable" and how a bad bean can spread like wildfire if not contro...
