chapter 1
That night, the sky was filled with stars, seemingly eager to brighten the festive atmosphere at the university party. Shigeru and Daisuke, like most other students, decided to attend the celebration. Initially, their intent was merely to have fun and unwind after a grueling week of exams.
They arrived at the large house that had been transformed into a party venue. Music thumped loudly, and colorful lights flickered in rhythm, electrifying the atmosphere. Other students had already begun drinking and dancing, cheering joyously without a care for the following day. Daisuke grinned and slapped Shigeru on the back.
“Today, we’re going to enjoy ourselves to the fullest! I’m so tired of studying,” Daisuke said, walking toward the drinks table.
Shigeru chuckled lightly, trailing behind Daisuke. They grabbed drinks from the table, and without much hesitation, they began to gulp down the alcoholic beverages eagerly. One glass, two glasses, and then more. The party atmosphere grew more intense, and the effects of the alcohol began to seep into their systems.
They settled in a corner of the living room, which was filled with other students. Daisuke downed his last drink before flashing a wide smile at Shigeru, who was visibly starting to feel the effects of the alcohol.
“Are you okay, Shigeru?” Daisuke asked, his voice slightly trembling from the alcohol.
Shigeru let out a small laugh, though his voice was starting to crack. “I... I’m okay, Daisuke. Just... I don’t know. I think I’m drunk.”
Daisuke laughed even louder, “We’re both drunk, bro! It’s fine. Tonight is our night.”
Slowly, their conversation shifted to more personal matters. In their inebriated state, they began to share stories about their lives. Shigeru, usually reserved, started to open up about the pressure he had been facing throughout the semester.
“I’m tired, Daisuke. Seriously. All of this is too heavy for me. Sometimes I feel like just running away from it all,” Shigeru confessed, his voice shaky.
Daisuke, listening with genuine sympathy, leaned closer to Shigeru. “I understand how you feel, Shigeru. I feel the same way sometimes. But you’re not alone, bro. I’m here. We can face this together.”
Shigeru was taken aback by Daisuke’s words. He had never realized that Daisuke, who always appeared strong and composed, was feeling the same kind of pressure. They moved closer together, their shoulders touching.
“Thank you, Daisuke... for always being there for me,” Shigeru said softly.
Daisuke smiled. “You’re my best friend. I won’t let you fall.”
That night, in their drunken haze and clouded minds, Shigeru and Daisuke unknowingly transitioned from a supportive friendship to something more intimate. Their light touches on shoulders turned into warm embraces, and they began to feel a strange new connection between them. Before long, what had started as a moment of emotional support crossed the line into an unexpected encounter.
They found themselves lying on the floor of an empty room on the upper level, having sought refuge from the chaotic party below. Their breaths were heavy, still in shock from what had just happened. Shigeru stared at the ceiling, his heart racing, and a wave of guilt began to creep in.
“What just happened between us, Daisuke?” Shigeru whispered, his voice hoarse and trembling.
Daisuke turned to Shigeru, his expression vacant but tinged with regret. “I don’t know... We were drunk... I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”
Shigeru buried his face in his hands, guilt consuming him. “This... this shouldn’t have happened.”
Daisuke fell silent, unable to find the words. What they had experienced that night had crossed the boundaries of their friendship, and now both were unsure how to return to their previous dynamic.
A night that had begun with the intention of having fun had now morphed into an event that would haunt both of them for a long time.
