Chapter one
HOW IT STARTED
Katherine waited impatiently for Lisa to pick out one more dress from the mall so they could get going. "You're taking forever."
"Beauty takes time." Lisa said chanting one of her favorite mottos.
It was winter and snowing heavily. Katherine hated winter time, she wasn't generally superstitious but from experience nothing good ever came from this time of the year. "Can we get going?"
"Fine Mrs grumpy pants. Let me at least pay for the dresses". Lisa replied.
"I'll wait for you outside". Katherine said making her way quickly out of the building.
Her feet crunched softly in the snow. It was early into December and already it had started snowing.
Looking at how dark the sky had gotten she realized how much time they had wasted in the mall.
Lisa had been Katherine's best friend for as long as she could remember. Although at first, her parents didn't approve of the friendship, eventually she became family.
Lisa had became a fashion designer plus an Instagram influencer and quickly made an excellent reputation surrounding her talents this was partially because her parents were rich, in fact both Katherine's and Lisa's parent were wealthy and very influential.
Katherine shook her head and repeatedly asked herself how she got dragged into following Lisa to the mall.
"Umm Katherine? Lisa called her name with worry in her voice.
"Take a look" Lisa said joining her outside and handing the phone to her. Confused Katherine took the phone from her and saw and an article with a picture of Jackson kissing a recently upcoming model called Wendy mariwad.
"That bastard"she said seething with anger. She was heartbroken and worst yet humiliated. Jackson was her fiance.
It was then she understood why Lisa had a worried expression.
Katherine was short tempered and tended to do things impulsively more often than not.
Lisa wasn't sure exactly what Katherine would do so she tried to calm her down and help her see reason."Katherine you have to at least cool down and think things over."
"Where is he? Katherine asked aware that Lisa would know exactly where he was since she kept track of different celebrities gossip.
"He's on his way to the airport...with Wendy." Lisa spoke quietly.
"He's eloping," Katherine said, it wasn't a question. When Lisa didn't answer she cursed.
"I am going to kill him." Katherine said furiously getting into her orange Lamborghini.
"Katherine..." Lisa was at loss for words because she knew how strong headed her best friend was.
"This is going to cause a scandal and I swear I'll put that coward in the hospital before he does something stupid" Katherine spoke with a tone of finality."hen is the plane taking off?
"Around thirty minutes from now" Lisa replied and quickly added "I am hoping that you don't do anything rash"
Katherine forced a smile"Don't you trust me? She asked and turned the key.
Lisa just frowned and watched the car back away and drive off at top speed, she had an uneasy feeling about this.
Katherine couldn't believe that Jackson would do this to her. She could feel herself burning up with anger.
Katherine always had anger issues and this greatly worried her parents Mr and Mrs Williams. As a result she was put into different anger management classes and was forced to go for many therapy sessions, some of her therapist advised her parents to convince her to try and channel her anger into something more productive which lead to Katherine signing up for karate, judo and taekwondo.
Although Katherine could be short tempered, arrogant and strong headed, she also had a strong sense of Justice, so she went to college to study criminology where she met Jackson.
"And now he's making out with a stupid blonde model." Katherine said out loud. Why Jackson had cheated on her she couldn't phantom. She knew she loved him admist all his flaws, at least she thought she did...now she was just so hurt and confused.
As she increased her speed she caught sight of a book in the passengers seat. she saw the cover and remembered why it was in her car she had wanted to return the book but she had forgotten too. It was a novel titled "Somewhere in the dark", it had been her favorite novel for a long time now.
She had tried to introduce Lisa to read it but after she did she said that the book was too tragic and that she didn't understand why Katherine had taken such an interest in it. The truth was Katherine didn't know why she was such a devoted fan of Helena shaws the author of "somewhere in the dark" but what she did know was that she had read and read the book a thousand times over.
She loved the characters an their story was a place she sought comfort.
Out of nowhere Katherine heard a snort and looked up to see a deer, she swerved violently to try not to hit the deer but it had been snowing heavily and the roads where covered in ice.
"Fuck." Katherine cursed as she lost control of her car, it went skidding off the road and rammed into a tree t everything went black.
