Chapter 1: The Rejection
The room was buzzing with excitement. Terrex sat behind his desk, reviewing scripts, headshots, and portfolios. It was a routine day in his creative world, except for the small knot of unease growing in the pit of his stomach. Today, he had to decide for the lead role in his newest project—a role that many had their eyes on, especially Raquel Rodríguez.
Raquel had been persistent. Each time she auditioned, she brought an intensity and energy that was hard to ignore. Yet, something never quite fit. Maybe it was her imposing figure or her unrelenting drive that made Terrex feel like she wasn’t right for the part. After weeks of back-and-forth, he had made his decision. And once again, Raquel was not going to be chosen.
As Terrex finished sending the email informing the actresses, his phone buzzed. A message from Raquel lit up the screen:
“This better be good news.”
Terrex hesitated, his fingers hovering over the screen. He knew what this meant. Raquel wouldn’t take this rejection lightly. But he had to send the response. He tapped out his reply.
“Raquel, I’m sorry, but we’ve decided to go in a different direction for this project.”
He stared at the screen, waiting for the three dots that signaled a response. Nothing. The tension in his chest began to rise, but he forced himself to push the thought aside. This wasn’t the first time he had to reject someone. It came with the job. But this time, something felt off.
Later that evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Terrex returned home, feeling the day’s pressure finally start to lift. But as he approached his front door, a strange sensation crept over him. The air was thick and oppressive. He stopped and glanced over his shoulder, suddenly aware of how quiet the street had become. The usual hum of city life seemed to have vanished.
He shrugged it off, blaming it on exhaustion, and stepped inside. The house was dark, save for the faint glow of his computer monitor in the corner. Terrex dropped his bag and collapsed onto the couch. But just as he started to relax, his phone buzzed again.
This time, it was a voice message—from Raquel.
Terrex’s heart pounded as he pressed play. A slow, deliberate voice filled the room, chilling him to his core.
“You think you can reject me? After everything I’ve given you? You’ll regret this, Terrex. You’ll regret everything.”
The message ended abruptly, leaving only silence. Terrex stood frozen, the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. He quickly deleted the message, trying to shake the growing fear that began to crawl into his mind.
But deep down, he knew—this wasn’t over.
