Prologue

His words hung heavy in the air, punctuated by the disapproving glances of his deputies. They moved through the crowd, urging people to disperse, warning them not to discuss the meteor or the strange happenings it had triggered. "Keep this to yourselves," they said, their tone serious. "We don't want to cause a panic."
