Chapter 1: Fateful Encounter

Y/N’s life was perfectly ordinary, a routine she had grown comfortable with over the years. As she hurried down the narrow streets of Seoul, clutching her oversized tote bag, her messy hair bounced along with her every step. She was late—again. The wind teased her clumsiness, making her skirt flutter and her steps falter as she fumbled to keep her bag from slipping off her shoulder. Her stubborn nature, however, kept her moving, determined not to let the day get any worse.

“Ah, really!” she muttered to herself, glancing at her watch. “Why am I always late?”

Her workplace, a small independent bookstore nestled between cafes, was her haven. She loved the quiet hum of the place, where the scent of worn pages and fresh coffee blended, wrapping her in a sense of comfort. Y/N had never imagined her life as particularly exciting, but she liked it that way. She preferred normalcy, and simplicity, avoiding unnecessary drama. She was cute, lovely, and far too clumsy for her good. Most days, she could barely manage to navigate her world without tripping over her feet.

But today, the mundane was about to collide with something dark and sinister.

Y/N turned a corner, her eyes downcast as she cursed herself for losing her favorite hair tie earlier that morning. In her distracted state, she failed to notice the ominous black car slowly following her from a distance. The tinted windows concealed the gaze of its occupant—a man whose cold, calculated eyes had been watching her for days.

Kim Taehyung, or V as he was known in the underworld, sat in the back of the sleek, black sedan. His gaze never left Y/N, an inexplicable curiosity building within him. It was unlike him to be interested in anyone outside of his world, much less a girl as ordinary as her. She was a nobody—at least in the eyes of the ruthless mafia leader. Yet, something about her clumsiness and unassuming presence drew him in, like a moth to a flame. His fingers tapped rhythmically against the armrest, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he watched her stumble over her own feet.

“What a fool,” Taehyung muttered, his deep voice barely audible over the soft hum of the engine.

Jeon Jungkook, seated in the front passenger seat, glanced back at his leader. “You want me to handle her?” His tone was calm, but beneath it, there was an edge—always ready for action.

“No,” Taehyung replied, his voice low and firm. “I’ll deal with her myself.”

Y/N, still unaware of the eyes tracking her every move, hurried into the bookstore. She breathed a sigh of relief as the familiar chime above the door greeted her. She smiled at the scent of freshly brewed coffee drifting in from the café next door, feeling the tension in her shoulders ease. This was her safe place, her little bubble away from the world.

As the hours passed, Y/N lost herself in the comfort of stacking books and chatting with the few regulars who came in. She didn’t realize that outside, the same black car remained parked, hidden just far enough away to avoid suspicion. The man inside, however, was growing more intrigued by the minute.

When the day finally came to a close, Y/N packed up and waved goodbye to her coworkers, feeling a sense of accomplishment despite her clumsy start to the morning. She stepped out into the chilly evening air, pulling her cardigan tight around her shoulders. It was getting late, and the streets were quieter now.

But as she made her way home, the nagging sensation of being watched settled over her. She brushed it off at first, chiding herself for being paranoid. Yet, the feeling only intensified with every step she took. The normally bustling streets seemed eerily empty, and the shadows stretched longer than usual. Her heart began to race as she quickened her pace, glancing over her shoulder every few seconds.

And then, she saw it—the black car.

It was parked just ahead, too close to the sidewalk for comfort. Y/N swallowed hard, her palms growing sweaty as she clutched her bag tighter. The street was silent, too silent, and her footsteps echoed louder than they should have. Her eyes darted around, searching for an escape route, but there was nowhere to go.

Suddenly, the car door opened with a soft click, and a tall figure emerged.

Kim Taehyung stepped out of the shadows, his sharp features illuminated by the dim streetlight. His presence was commanding, making people stop in their tracks. He was dressed in a tailored black suit, his long overcoat billowing slightly in the wind. The look in his eyes was enough to send a shiver down Y/N’s spine.

“Excuse me—” she stammered, trying to keep her voice steady, but the words caught in her throat as he approached her with slow, deliberate steps.

Taehyung said nothing at first, merely observing her, his dark eyes studying her every move. He could see the fear in her eyes, the way her body tensed as if she was preparing to flee. Yet, there was something else too—something that intrigued him even more. She wasn’t just afraid. She was curious, perhaps even drawn to the danger she sensed in him.

“You’re late,” he finally said, his voice smooth and deep, sending an unsettling thrill down her spine.

Y/N blinked, confused by his words. “W-what?”

“For our meeting,” Taehyung clarified, his lips curling into a small, knowing smile. “You didn’t think I was just watching you for fun, did you?”

Y/N’s breath hitched as she took a step back, panic rising in her chest. She had no idea who this man was or why he was speaking to her as if they were somehow connected. Her instincts screamed at her to run, but her feet were rooted to the spot, paralyzed by the intensity of his gaze.

“I don’t know who you are,” Y/N managed to whisper, her voice trembling. “Please, just leave me alone.”

Taehyung’s smile widened, but there was no warmth in it. “Oh, but you will know me, Y/N.”

The sound of her name on his lips sent a wave of shock through her. How did he know her name? Who was this man? Before she could process what was happening, Taehyung took another step forward, his hand reaching out toward her. At that moment, Y/N’s clumsy instincts took over, and she stumbled backward, her heel catching on the curb. She fell hard onto the pavement, her bag spilling its contents across the street.

Taehyung didn’t even flinch. Instead, he crouched down beside her, his eyes gleaming with amusement as he extended a hand to help her up. “You are as clumsy as they say.”

Y/N stared at him, her heart racing in her chest. Every fiber of her being told her to refuse his hand, to get up and run as far away as possible. But something about him—his calm, unyielding presence—made her pause. Against her better judgment, she placed her trembling hand in his.

His grip was firm, almost possessive, as he pulled her to her feet. For a moment, they stood there in silence, their faces mere inches apart. Y/N could feel the heat radiating from his body, the intensity of his gaze boring into her soul.

“You belong to me now,” Taehyung whispered, his voice low and commanding. “Don’t forget that.”

Before Y/N could protest, he turned and walked back to his car, leaving her in stunned silence. The sound of the car door closing echoed in her ears as the black sedan drove away, disappearing into the night.

Y/N stood frozen in place, her mind racing to understand what had just happened. She didn’t know who Kim Taehyung was, but one thing was certain—her life was never going to be the same again.

How will she cope with the whirlwind of emotions that follow?
