"I’ve been searching for a romance that doesn’t rely on the spice or shock value of eroticism—something pure, heartfelt, and entirely focused on the characters and their growth. My Love Tale in Japan is perfect in this regard. At first, I wasn’t sure about the writing style, but its easy-to-follow nature quickly drew me into the story, allowing me to focus on the characters rather than getting caught up in the format. It’s a simple story, but simplicity doesn’t mean boring. In fact, despite its premise, the story consistently finds ways to surprise you, steering clear of predictability. When it comes to the characters, let me start by saying that the ones who frustrate me are often my favorites, and this book is no exception. Nama, the main character, drove me crazy with how clueless he could be about women. His tendency to fall in love so quickly caused him plenty of heartache, but it also led him to Mia—a testament to how the writing captures character flaws so perfectly. It’s these flaws that make their journeys feel so genuine, and I found myself thoroughly invested in their arcs. Isabell, on the other hand, was another source of frustration for me—her constant nagging reminded me so much of my little sister! Meanwhile, Yua’s transformation from indifferent to developing feelings for Nama was handled exceptionally well. I was worried her love for Nama might feel forced, but the story stayed true to her character and kept her development believable. I really appreciate that attention to detail. That said, my favorite character by far is Mia. She’s loyal to a fault—not just to Nama, but to her family business and her own ambitions. That ambition is such an attractive and admirable quality, and it’s something I deeply relate to. Mia’s a big dreamer, and her drive makes her stand out as the most compelling character in the cast. Overall, this is a fantastic book, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! 4.8/5."
