The Long Week
The office was quiet except for the soft hum of computers and the occasional tapping of keyboards. Sera sat at her desk, rubbing her temples as she stared at the latest game development build. As Lead Game Designer, the past week had been a blur of meetings, deadlines, and countless revisions.
She glanced at the clock. 7:45 PM.
Sighing, she stretched her arms above her head and leaned back in her chair, her mind wandering. It had been almost a week since she last saw Law. Between his demanding schedule as a dentist and her workload, their time together had become scarce.
Maybe I should surprise him, she thought. Sera picked up her phone and scrolled through her messages with Law. Their last conversation was three days ago, brief and routine. She frowned.
“I’ll finish up here and head over to the clinic,” she muttered to herself, standing up to grab her bag. On her way out, she stopped by a convenience store to pick up some of Law’s favorite snacks—chocolate-covered almonds and a pack of energy drinks.
The clinic was dimly lit when Sera arrived. She fished out the spare key Law had given her months ago and quietly let herself in. The reception area was deserted, the faint glow of an office light filtering through the hallway.
She smiled to herself, feeling a little thrill at the idea of surprising him. He’s been so busy lately, this will be a nice break for both of us, she thought, balancing the snacks in one hand as she made her way towards his office.
“Law?” she called softly, not wanting to startle him. There was no response, but she could hear muffled voices behind the door. Sera paused, her hand hovering over the doorknob. It wasn’t unusual for him to be talking to a colleague at this hour—he worked late often.
Maybe I should wait, she thought, but her curiosity got the better of her. Slowly, she turned the knob.
