Chapter one

Laura’s childhood

I awoke to my aunt and uncle arguing, it’s always the same ever since they took me in. I stood by the door as uncle John exclaims and shouts to my Aunt Mae that they are unable to care for a useless child like myself, and that he doesn’t want a blind, useless chonger in the house, Maybe I would have been better off dead with my parents in the accident…

They never asked for a child like myself, I was born blind… in a way I agreed with his remarks, even though I had no idea what a chonger was at that time. I clutched the doorway of my room and awaited for everything to calm down.

After Uncle John rushed off to work and slammed the front door. My aunt Mae peeked over to the hallway and had seen me ease dropping, she was crying, I could smell her tears as she walked up to me for a hug. I smelled salt like rain and her whole face was damp. As she hugged me she apologized and said “I’m your new mother now and I vowed my sister Lia that I’d be your God mother.” Family comes first and I felt her smiling. I did not know how to respond, I was still grieving from the loss of my parents months ago. But, I hugged her back to comfort her. I just hope one day my Aunt Mae gets the courage enough to leave her husband for her own happiness. Shes sacrificed so much for everyone in our family, and now to only end up with just me…

Everything came to be this way after, my Aunt Mae married an Australian American man, who is now my uncle John. She knew he was racist but, needed him to help her family come to America. That’s how my mother, father and herself escaped the concentration camp back in Malaysia during the war, through marriage contract. That’s where my mother met my father as well, he was half Malaysian and German. My mother once said when she first met my father when they were teenagers, there was a strong enlightenment and energy between them, as if they already knew each other.

I still feel so much grief of losing the only two people, who has ever loved me. But, this was my new home now and Aunt Mae was all I had left of my bloodline. I couldn’t protect her from her husband’s verbal abuse, all I could do was sit and listen to it all.

At school it was much worse, I’m always being taunted as an orphan blind child. I always kept to my self and studies. My whole world was revolved around a black hole of emptiness and anger.

I question myself everyday, why me? Why couldn’t I have drowned with them in that car crash?

I hope you guys like my introduction about Laura and her background. Let me know what you like about my storyline along the way.
