Prologue
“...and as of today, I quit being an actor. Of course, all work that I have signed up for will be completed. After that, I will take some time to go traveling and find a new direction for my life.”
It was probably the hardest post Jamie had ever written in his life. Every single character felt like it weighed a ton. Before he could finish it, he had to get up several times to stand by the window and take a few deep breaths, then pat the cat on his way back to his desk. He looked down at his furry grey companion like seeing her for the first time and suddenly realized, this cat had become fat!
He had been away from home so much in recent years, filming dramas back to back, doing preparatory training or promotions, and feeding the cat with treats had become a substitute for love and attention. He was only too aware of the effect this news would have on his fans. In the past few months, ever since he had come to the conclusion that this was his only way out of a desperate situation, he had carefully planned his move. Going out on a high note, just after having one of his dramas broadcast, was sure to attract a maximum of media attention without him even lifting a finger. A discreet leak about the true reasons behind his decision would allow those who were willing to understand to infer what had been going on behind the scenes. And then he could finally have a long vacation away from it all.
Now there were just two more weeks of filming that he had to complete and he would be free. Free from the bloodsucking agency, free from mind-numbingly stupid scripts, and free from the whole trivial circus required to promote idol dramas. It felt good!
