Prologue

Hell is empty and all the devils are here.

~William Shakespeare

“… and they were saved from the ruthless monster. Now go to sleep before the demon wakes up from his grave and comes to haunt you,” ended the mother, closing the book.

A frightened child stared back at her inquisitively,” But the Chosen destroyed him. He is dead.”

The mother paused, took the extinguisher from the nightstand and bend her neck at exactly 90 degrees," Not for long.” A chill passed through the spine of the child. Suddenly he covered his entire length with a blanket, decidedly spooked by his mother’s insinuation. In record 3.5 seconds, the candle is put out, the pills hidden away and the heavy Red Ivory door closed. And locked.

The sky was clear with no moon in sight. Stars were very unusual in this part of the town so the mother didn’t concern herself with such unnecessary thoughts. Putting the child to sleep was always very tedious, no doubt. But recently it was as if he was testing her patience, asking questions that he shouldn’t. She blamed her fate on that man, the one she belonged to, the one who ruined her life. Had he known her greatness or what she’s capable of, he wouldn’t have dared slap her in front of those servants or forced himself on her whenever he wanted or even had his bastard roam around the mansion like he owned it. Silly man.

She was born to be great. Her grandfather had been great. And their ancestors were great as well. If only her father hadn’t been such a moron, this mansion could have been hers. But they say, an ocean can’t be filled in a day and greatness can’t be hidden for long. All of this was meant to be hers and she was going to take it one way or another. Just a few more days and he will awaken. And that’ll be three years before the Children can fully control their powers. Oh, how glad she was to be alive.

Fortunately, the master of the mansion is out of town so she can indulge tonight. The mother smiled to herself and headed towards the servant’s quarter. It was going to be one long, bloody night.

An hour later a blood-curdling scream emerged from the darkest corner of the mansion's interior. Crows cawed and bats flew away, frightened. And then everything was quiet.

One mistake. Three chosen ones. Countless demons.
