Chapter 1
Generation after generation we wish to be who we idolize
But walking through life we realize
That we should not self-prophesize
Instead with our power of choice, we should maximize-
The opportunity to become better than who we pedestalize.
Decisions are meant to be made and committed to
For they shape us, not what we went through
Past predicaments clutter our perception
With trauma and residual deception
That’s when we fall to worldwide corruption.
I’ve taken these lessons one day at a time
Retracing my steps, identifying the root of my crimes
So, I bleed out my truths whether they remain sublime-
Or become viewed as serpentine.
A snake can only perceive the world from a blurred view
And if you feel that’s me then tell me what am I to do?
I’ve tapped into a frequency with renewed vigor
Because I have devoted myself to the bigger picture
Before I allowed my foundation to be shaken like a fissure
And now I’m alone with my heart ready to nurture.
Healing from self-inflicted wounds
Because I choose not to walk a road of doom and gloom.
Love does not equate to tolerance
And I realized I tolerated pain in the name of love
Tolerated disrespect in the name of love
Tolerated the bare minimum in the name of love
Tolerated my own insecurities in the name of love
Grew desperate in the name of love
And now, I refuse to accept those in the name of love.
I understand what love truly signifies
And only through understanding will it magnify.
