Chapter 1: The Start
Evan Buckley was just 17 when he left home and never looked back. His parents didn’t even realize he was gone until his only friend Jane came looking from him and found a note in his room for her
Maddie had no idea that he’d left. She already got out from under their parents thumb when she left with Doug, leaving him alone in that house and never looked back. Jane was the only one to care that he was gone. To his parents he was a problem child, too soft to be a alpha, they didn’t even bother to file a police report and Jane never did because she knew her friend was going to be okay
Evan had gotten access to his trust fund his grandparents left him, which was fully unlocked on his 17th birthday, the only people in their family who cared about him. He completely drained it and moved it to a different bank account his parents had no idea he had
Evan waited until his 18th birthday before signing up for the Navy SEALS. Actually he wanted to join the army, but the recruiter took one look at him and handed him a SEAL pamphlet. He took it and never looked back, passing all test with high scores, either getting 1st of 2nd of the highest
He didn’t keep in contact with anyone from his past except Jane who moved to LA when she turned 18, far away from her parents. He sent postcards and letters telling her all about his team and pack
Steve Mcgarrett, SmoothDog, Alpha of their pack, and father figure to Evan and Casey, brother figure to Ellie and Alexis. He took one look at the Evan and immediately took him under his wing, showing all the tricks and tips of being a alpha and SEAL
Ellie Rockwood, Angle, Beta of their pack, sister figure to Evan, Steve and Casey. She was the only woman on their team, gorgeous but damn she could kickass, she was also the mate of their other team member beta Alexis River
Casey Grayson, Bomber, Omega of their pack, brother figure to Evan, Ellie and Alexis, son figure to Steve. He was the best person for when they needed to blow things up, hence his nickname, he might be soft with his pack but others found out why they should never make an omega angry
Alexis River, Strik, beta of their pack, brother figure to Evan, Casey and Steve. He was the mate of Ellie Rockwood. Alexis was the brains behind their force, yes they are all smart, but he took the cake with his intelligence
They were the perfect team and pack. They all loved each other, were deadly on the field, the Navy were happy to have such a great team. Until things went sideways on a mission
A mole in their own organization gave them information they knew would lead to a trap. In the end, only Steve and Evan got out alive, but not unscathed. Ellie, Alexis and Casey were all gone, with that leaving Eliana River, the 2 year old daughter of Ellie and Alexis an orphan
With their team dead, and both of them hurt, the Navy gave them the option of Honorable discharge or being moved to the reserve. Both took the option of being called back, only if they were absolutely needed
With that, they both took custody of little Eliana River, adopting her into their pack and family, making her Eliana River-Buckley-Mcgarrett. The three of them moved back to Hawaii where Steve ran his own team. 5-O. Evan helped out as a consultant and sometimes as an agent when they really needed it but he focused more on Eliana and his books.
He became an author. Children’s books. Horror books. Romance books. Those were his three favorite topics, he also got really into business and the stock market.
The three of them spent years together, as a pack, slowly opening back up to their new team. Evan loved Danny Willams, the blond kept Steve grounded and he was great with Eliana, which could be because of his own children, Grace and Charlie. Their pack went from just him, Steve and Eliana to Danny, Grace, Charlie, Chin-Ho and Kono joining them
They’ve spent the past two years working and growing stronger. It was still hard for Steve and Evan, sometimes, they could see their old pack in their new pack, they could see Alexis and Ellie in Eliana, Casey in Chin-Ho and Kono. They were always quiet for hours after that, but their pack never let them stay that way
Yes, they could tell their alpha and alpha heir were still in pain, they always will be, losing a pack they way they did would never leave them, but they were always there in small ways that let them know they weren’t alone.
Now Evan and Eliana were in LA. Technically Evan was there for work for the 5-O. The governor wants to expand the 5-O, so Steve sent Evan to check out LA to see if it would be a good spot to make a new 5-O before trying anywhere else. He brought Eliana so she can hang out with Jane and her girlfriend Emmaile while he checked out some places
Evan really hoped to find a place here. He loved their home, but he always wanted to live in LA with his pack, just like they were going to with their old pack. Maybe that’s why Steve picked LA first, because he remembered those plans as well. He wanted to be close to Jane, the person he thinks of like a sister, and he wants his pack to live here as well. He was happy with his pack
Not once did Evan think to look for Maddie or his mate
Since he didn’t have to look for places today, and Eliana wanted to see more of LA, he took them to the pier. He hadn’t expected to get caught in a tsunami on the pier in Santa Monica. He’d just sat down, watching Eliana look at the water when people started running and screaming
When he noticed the receding waters, he scooped up his daughter and took off “Papa, look!” Eliana yelled pointing to a small kid with crutches struggling to get away. Evan didn’t think twice, grabbing the kid with his other arm, holding onto both kids as the first wave hit
The wave had pushed them roughly but Evan used his training to keep them afloat as they drifted with the water until they came upon a fire truck and Evan was able to both kids and himself on top of the truck
“We should be safe here. You okay Eliana?” Evan asked his daughter, rubbing her back as she coughed “Yeah Papa, I’m okay” Eliana nodded, Evan kissed her head before turning to the blond kid “How about you, kid? Are you good?”
The blue eye child nodded with a smile “Yes, mister, I’m good. My names Christopher” Christopher said, his eyes shining as he looked at the man. Evan smiled a little, the kid energy reminding him of Charlie “Nice to meet you. I’m Evan, this is my daughter Eliana”
“Hi” Eliana chirped with a bright smile that was all Ellie
“Hello!” Christopher chirped back
“Why were you all alone on the pier?” Evan asked. The kid was too young to be on his own, he looked to be maybe 2 or 3 years older than Eliana. Anything could have happened to him, not only that but Evan had got a good scent when he picked up the kid. He was clearly a wolf, no wolf would leave there pup alone like that
Well... No good wolf
“My babysitter went to get me an ice cream, she was supposed to be right behind me but when I looked back I didn’t see her. I think she ran when the alarms went off” Christopher explained
Evan was going to ask about his parents when he heard a scream. He looked out checking to see where the scream originated from until he saw a woman holding onto a branch in the water “Chris, stay here okay? Watch Eliana for me”
“Got it” Chris wrapped his arms around the younger wolf. Evan smiled before he dived into the water, his training taking over like second nature. He swam towards the woman, “I got you” He told her, wrapping his arms around her waist holding her until she had a tight grip on him
He managed to get them back to the firetruck, helping her up
“Thank you. Oh god. Thank you so much” She said, shaking like a leaf “It’s okay, you’re going to be okay” Evan rubbed her back when two more screams caught his attention “Can you watch them?” He asked pointing to the kids
“Of course” The woman nodded, moving towards the kids. Evan didn’t waste a second, diving back in, swimming towards the two teens who should have been in school. He got them to the truck before going back when he saw more people.
He continued, pulling everyone who was alive, out of the water and onto the truck when the water started to recede he grabbed onto the ladder so he wouldn’t be pulled with the water. It was dark when they were able to leave.
Evan held his daughter and Chris in his arms, leading the group of 16 people. They encountered many other people along the way and Evan helped them with the basic medical skills he had from his Navy days and working with Steve in the 5-O. They took on some more people in their group, as he led them to a field hospital he knew would be set up about now
He was met with nurses who looked shocked at the large group of people following the man “This is Eliana, she’s 4 years old, no allergies. She has some cuts and bruises but nothing to severe” Evan started to explain handing off his daughter to the closest nurse
“I’ll take her to a bed” The nurse motioned to a bed nearby.Evan nodded and turned back to the other nurse ready to hand Chris over when a man yelled out, “Christopher!”
Christopher jumped out of Evan’s arms and ran as fast as his legs could carry him to the man
“Oh Chris! I was so worried” The man exclaimed
From the clear resemblance he assumed that the man was Christopher’s father. If Evan hadn’t been so tired, in pain, and worried about his daughter, he would have taken the time to appreciate how hot the man looked in his firefighter
“Evan saved me daddy!” Chris said and pointed in his direction. He was now sitting on an empty bed, a few beds away from his daughter, keeping an eye on her. Though it looks like he didn’t need to worry too much with the way, his daughter is charming the nurses. Now that is all Alexis
He turned back towards Chris and his father when he heard his name, and he had to bite back the surprised gasp that wanted to escape when their eyes met.
The boy’s father was his mate. Of course he would meet his mate in LA after he saved his son from the tsunami. He winced when a nurse pressed one of his cuts harder then she meant too. The man, his mate, picked up Chris and moved closer clearly concerned
Evan closed his eyes as he was made to sit still, he desperately wanted to grab his daughter and make a run for it. He never really wanted to meet his mate, he always believed that it would just be him, Eliana, Steve and the others. He was fine with that, he didn’t need more
Now his mate would want more and he didn’t want to shake anything up.
The last thing he expected was to hear his sister’s voice calling out to him. Evan opened his eyes to see a much older version of his sister in front of him, she looked happy, that light in her eyes returned
“Buck?” She asked incredulously examining his face as if she couldn’t believe he was really sitting in front of him
“It’s Evan”
